No, it was not always this good.  They really gave it a boost in this patch.

I finally visited Whimsydale recently and yeah, it was pretty sweet.  Lots of goodies.  I'd opened a portal before, but it was during Rift and I kept meaning to come back for it, but forgot anyway.

I saw this posted on another forum.  No idea where it came from, but with the Happy Clouds (not so happy here, actually) and rainbows, and the background being graph paper (close enough to notebook paper), it immediately said Whimsydale to me.

Lol. I got in for the first time since the patch from a rainbow gobbo while doing bounties. The loot is great if you can get in!!

I got into Whimsydale and then in the same game, each within 5-10 minutes of finishing the last one, I got two Vaults! Needless to say I'm feeling very rich right now 

I went through all three special levels with the Broken Crown as my cube armour item, Whimsydale gave me over 200 gems, mostly imperial. I didn't count the gems from the Vaults, but I had some gold boosting gear, ended up with about 380 million.

Yep the vault is sweet. When the game launched it took me about a year to pick up 10 million gold. How stingy the game was and how noob I was first or 2nd trip on I had 100mill pickup ach
