I didn't see anything particularly new or unsettling in that article. His big complaint seems to be that Valve has lots of money and doesn't answer to shareholders and so it can do what it wants. It didn't try to turn TF2 into Fortnite and somehow that's ... bad? It came up with something that will probably single-handedly drive the VR market for a while, at the same time as they produce their own nicely compatible VR hardware. And... that's bad somehow?

I guess I'm missing the anti-consumer part. Devs not getting a bigger than 70% cut is not anti-consumer. Devs are free to come or go.

Mostly the guy is salty Valve is allergic to the number 3. :P

If I had the room to play VR games, I'd have picked up Alyx already.

The gravity gloves can have some powerful range.  The level of fine control seen would be impossible with mouse and keyboard

Now ideally I would have already played it with be. But next preferences are:
Me playing in non vr > watching a letís play of someone I like in vr  > not experiencing ever > spoilers > trump winning another term
