2019 tax day sucked
« on: April 16, 2019, 05:47:26 PM »
Just a short rant, waited till the end to do my taxes, knowing that we would likely have some bad news.
Sure enough, we owed more tax this year after many years of getting a rebate. I did not notice any appreciable
difference in my retirement pay, but did pay more taxes. Whomever thought that ending the mortgage
interest deduction was a good idea can kiss my big, pustule covered butt. Rant over.

I am in that really, really, really slim group of not-rich people who actually benefitted from the new tax law, and I *still* say Fuck Trump and fuck this tax cut for the wealthy.

The tax cut was a big flop.

Yeah...you are in the minority but good for you.  It is a tax change that targets the coasts.

In general, the Tax laws in the US are ridiculous.  On so many levels.  And the poorer you are the more screwed you are.

I was about to go on a rant, I just swallow the bile instead.

I'm on the coast. Somehow it just happened that I hit the sweet spot, mostly because I take the standard deduction and have the "envious" lifestyle of not owning a damn thing... despite a salary increase of $3k, my tax liability overall dropped by over $700 for the year.

Tax law is stupid.  But this goes beyond that... this was a calculated and seemingly punitive attack on the people most likely to oppose Trump.

My refund last year was over 4x what it had been for years before, probably because the standard deduction for me went up from $6300 to $12000.  Since I'm way below the average income, it probably affected me a lot more... I guess?  Who knows.

You should be paying less in tax Max so I'm glad.

I'm not against equitable tax.  It is needed to be able to run a society.  What Trump did was bad on several fronts.  And yes he is trying to stick it to those that oppose him.  I laugh when I read how the Republicans have no clue why they are losing in California so badly.  How can it be a surprise that when you go after a group they will in turn fight back?
