Over the weekend I finished something I've been slowly working on for the past 10 years.  Serious Sam HD The Second Encounter has a bit of a lame achievement "Frag 100 different players".  If you aren't a deathmatch fan, then its a bit of a drag already.  Skilled people run all around the place and trying to get them, even once can be rough.  Especially if you aren't the host and they have lag.   Also most MP games are dead apart from special events, so finding someone, let alone 100 over time can be a slow slog.

Over the weekend to celebrate 10 years, Croteam was going to host some servers.  I managed to get on and somehow get the last 16 I needed to trigger the achievement 10 years to the day I got my first achievement in game.  I'm really glad that is out the way.  Some of it reminds me why PvP ain't my thing.  The personalities of some of the people involved, their egos etc can really detract from the fun.  And servers far away where everyone moves and shoots super fast doesn't work.

For most of those frags though, it was the community coming together in a spirit of helping each other.  People would share they wanted to do it, I've gained a few online friends from it, we would take turns sharing the frag and moving on without hassle.  This is what I will remember, the cooperation, helping your fellow gamer.

That achievement is part of what has put me off pushing for 100% for years in that game.  For the First Encounter, I managed to grind it out 3 years ago by hosting a game, going AFK and waiting for sound that someone was in, frag them, then go AFK.  Many hours were taken getting the occasional player, and then hoping it was someone new!

Now it brings me to the last 2 achievements. SURVIVAL, solo and coop (although I can do solo, but the time targets are higher).  Its going to be nice to be just me vs monsters.  I have some great guides to show that it can be done.  So I just have to copy, get lucky and get good all at once :D

Finished first playthrough of the Trials of Mana remake using Duran, Angela and Charlotte.  Pretty faithful to the original, with an added post-game dungeon that's kinda meh, but I think it's a tie to another Mana game I haven't played (something the Tales series does a lot).  Boss battles use a lot of MMO-style area of effect highlights to force you to move around or destroy certain things before a super attack goes off, and it mostly works, although even on Hard difficulty a lot of bosses die too fast.  New Game+ is generous since it lets you switch to other characters while keeping most items, gil, and collectable bonuses while also giving an equippable that gives 300%XP.  Now starting with Hawk, Reisz and Kevin.

Congrats Timmeh!

Not my thing but very cool that you were able to knock that achievement out.

I finished Re2.  Overall the game is very good.  That said there are a couple of things I really didn't like.  Tough to talk about those things without spoiling so I won't.  At the end of the game it gave me a grade of 'C'.  FU.  lol.  I have a slight temptation to play the game again with Leon.  But I think I am going to pass on that for now.

Playing Shadow of the Colossus.  The game has been remastered for the PS4 and was free for Plus subscribers.  Remastered or not the controls are, at best, twitchy.  Battling the colossi is pretty fun.  Game is very pretty.  Finding the colossi can be a pain in the ass.  The game is a bit repetitive.  Overall probably worth playing.  16 colossi to battle is probably 6 too many.  I have completed 9 of them I think.

Look up Praey for the Gods on Steam for something inspired by SotC but ... good.

I'll check that out.  I stopped playing Shadow because it was just getting tedious.

I have moved on to Divinity Original Sin 2.  It is pretty great but really hard. Either I need to get good or get a million and one resurrect scrolls.

I have fond memories of playing light gun games in the arcades, so I've recently been playing some House of the Dead 2 on the Wii, blasting away zombies with a zapper. Good stuff.

Still going with Divinity 2.  Very fun and engrossing game.  Also very difficult at higher levels.  I think I could play the higher levels if I did all the research and figured out the perfect everything.  I rather play a bit easier and learn as I go.  Being allowed to make mistakes is a good thing.

Finally, finally, finally finished the platinum for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.  Total playtime ~1200 hours, between the base game and the expansion.  Was going pretty well for a while but the very last giant crown took an entire week of grinding, and of course it had to be goddamn Lunastra, which is a monster that 99% of randoms online suck at fighting (she is legit pretty annoying though), so I had to do it all alone or risk having them die instantly and fail the quest for me.  A "1% spawn chance" took me 251 tries, though I probably would've found it earlier if not for MP fails.

Congrats.  251 tries?! Yikes.  Not sure that I would have continued.

I'm a frugal gamer, so I often end up 100% completing games I otherwise wouldn't have due to just avoidance of buying more games.  Thankfully I didn't actually have to kill the monster every try, as I just needed to measure its size, and then kill it if it looked like it large enough. This was by far the most time-consuming platinum I could possibly do though, and there's still more in the game I haven't done.

Not that anyone who hasn't played the game would understand this, but this was my build for the majority of the expansion:
Safi's Burstcannon Heavy Bowgun (Augments: Affinity, Defense, Health Regen) (Mods: 3x Shield, Close Range, Recoil Suppressor)
Lunastra Helm, Gloves and Boots (all Beta, Tool Specialist Secret set bonus)
Gold Rathian Armor and Pants (all Beta, Divine Blessing Secret set bonus)
Guard Charm lvl 5
Temporal Mantle+
Rocksteady Mantle+ (or relevant elemental resist mantle)
Skills after Decos and Charm: Guard Lvl 5, Divine Blessing Lvl 5, Tool Specialist Lvl 5, Health Boost lvl 3, Critical Eye lvl 3, Tenderizer Lvl 3, Partbreaker lvl 2, Wide Range lvl 2, Critical Boost lvl 1, Agitator lvl 1-3, Spread/Power Shot lvl 1, Blast Attack lvl 1
A very defensive build, but it meant I fainted only like 2 times in the 600+ hours I played the expansion despite the harder difficulty.  Spread-ammo focused Heavy Bowguns have always been very strong in the DPS (i.e. objectively the fastest speedrun weapon), so I was killing things pretty fast even without a huge focus on damage boosting skills, and I could play it pretty casually and not die.

You should play Divine Divinity Original Sin 2.  Holy cow that game is big.  I can't imagine trying to get the platinum in this one.

I just got out of what is the beginner area and I probably have 30 hours into the game.
