Game of Thrones with spoilers

Will be interesting to see where it wraps up.  I'm going in with 0 expectations, hope I'm not disappointed.  I'd laugh if The Mountain isn't dead and finishes off Dany ..

I am guessing most people here are going to mad/upset at the ending.

Personally, I was fine with the ending.

The idea of someone like her ruling I think is pretty terrifying.  When she lost the councilors that she trusted she had no one to curb her worst instincts.  The thing that surprised me the most is that Grey Worm let John live.

As for Bran being the new king, meh.  He is a better choice than most.  And that is the point.  It ends up coming down to a choice that a handful of people make.  At least he will make a pretty good judge.

The North breaking away from the rest also makes sense.

I am probably less invested in the story as I never read the books, and only started watching a little over a year ago.  It seems that many felt that they had ownership over the story and with that lots of expectations.

I am assuming that you have not watched the last couple of episodes based on that comment.

As an aside, my favorite moment was the Battle of Winterfell and the defeat of the White Walkers.  Sure some of the tactics in that episode were sketchy but easily the high point of the season for me.

I think its unfair to say we think we had ownership of the story.  We just expected better than the trash writing we've been subjected to in recent seasons.

Whilst this wasn't as bad as some of the other episodes this season, it still felt like pretty bad fan fiction:
  • Why was Bronn master of coin other than to please fans? It didn't make sense in the context of him threatening Tyrion nor having any any skills in the area
  • Why was Sam Grand Maester other than to please fans? He hadn't even trained yet.
  • Why didn't Yara throw an absolute fit when Sansa decided the North wasn't going to be in the Seven Kingdoms. The Greyjoys have also wanted to be independent the whole time.  It didn't make sense for Bran to allow this because he immediately puts at risk the unity of the remaining six.
  • How long was Tormund going to wait at the wall just in case Jon wanted to pop up?
  • If Bran popped down because he knew he was going to be King, he must have seen this all coming. Yet he didn't warn anyone about the razing of King's Landing? He's the true evil of this show.
  • Where the hell did all those Unsullied and Dothraki come from? Didn't they all die a few episodes ago.
  • Why didn't Jon Snow just say Daenarys got angry, burned the throne and flew off on her dragon? Oh wait this one makes sense, it's because Jon is a fucking idiot.

I'm sure if GRRM ever gets round to finishing the book the ending will make a lot more sense!

just finished getting caught up. was better than i expected after all the interweb backlash. that being said, much of Kas's complaints are legitimate. lots of fan service in the last episode, definitely. most of it i didn't mind, and most of it was detail anyway, not having much impact on the larger story. dany's ending was the least surprising thing in the world. jon taking responsibility for it was in keeping with his character. him going back north felt right. the night king got short shrift. the battle of winterfell was both the highlight and the biggest disappointment of the season. the stakes there seemed so much higher than what happened afterwards... the walkers were set up from the first episode, and then dispensed with early. it felt backwards. and i still think Martin will never finish the series.
