Anyone remember Hellgate: London?

So, I've been playing Remnant: From the Ashes and this is like playing a fevered dream in which Hellgate: London and Dark Souls got together and spawned a demon child and that demon child grew up playing Fallout games. It is a glorious thing and I highly recommend taking a look. It's a $40 game with every bit of the appearance and polish of a AAA game. Lengthwise, it's said to be 15-20 hours, with at least 3 playthroughs needed to see all the things.

Colour me intrigued!

I've mostly been playing around with PC settings, but now I'm mostly happy I've finally started Rise of the Tomb Raider.  Not particularly far through but I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far.

I fired up CPU-Z and it is also showing the RAM as KHX3200C18D4/8G but I just can't find anywhere you can buy that number - so I think you are probably right.

RAM voltage is correctly 1.2.  Maybe I just shouldn't worry about it!

Thanks Max, I checked the RAM sticks, they are in the 2nd and 4th so that shouldn't be a problem.

Based on your other comment I looked at the support list here: I believe my RAM is HX432C18FB2/8 so according to that list it should be fine if I understand it correctly.  I went into the BIOS again and it appears as DDR4-3200 18-21-21-39-74-1.2V, but RAM timings are totally beyond me.

I'm not part of any good tech communities, so not really sure where I should ask this.  Curious if anyone else does?

I've got a new PC and overall its running great, but for some reason the RAM is running way below expectations.  XMP is enabled in the BIOS so not sure what else I could do.

This is my benchmark results:

Books / Re: 2018 Reading List?
« on: August 05, 2019, 01:07:17 PM »

Finished The Power and Vigilance, which are each high on the list of most depressing books i've read in a while. both near future scifi. The Power's a take on what happens when women manifest a mutation that reverses the power dynamic between men and women; "what if men were suddenly at a huge physical disadvantage?". overall not an optimistic take on human nature.

Vigilance was even less optimistic. main character is the producer of a reality TV show that incites/follows mass shootings, judging the performance (or lack thereof) of the victims. the 'it takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun' thing. ish... i was striking out at the library and didn't want to leave without a book, ended up with this. Felt a lot like "the running man" told from the perspective of the antagonist. well written and a fast read but felt gross finishing it, which is not a huge leap to assume was the point. before reading this, I had been eyeing another series (the divine cities?) by the same author but if that's as dour as this was, will probably skip it.

Have Finder by Suzanne Palmer and Too like the lightning by Ada Palmer up next. didn't notice both authors had the same last name until just now...

The Divine Cities trilogy is what I plan to read after my current book, so I'll let you know!

I'm also enjoying the 1 gamepass (apparently we have to pay 27% more than you in the states!).  Already tried 3-4 games so easily got my money's worth.

I think its unfair to say we think we had ownership of the story.  We just expected better than the trash writing we've been subjected to in recent seasons.

Whilst this wasn't as bad as some of the other episodes this season, it still felt like pretty bad fan fiction:
  • Why was Bronn master of coin other than to please fans? It didn't make sense in the context of him threatening Tyrion nor having any any skills in the area
  • Why was Sam Grand Maester other than to please fans? He hadn't even trained yet.
  • Why didn't Yara throw an absolute fit when Sansa decided the North wasn't going to be in the Seven Kingdoms. The Greyjoys have also wanted to be independent the whole time.  It didn't make sense for Bran to allow this because he immediately puts at risk the unity of the remaining six.
  • How long was Tormund going to wait at the wall just in case Jon wanted to pop up?
  • If Bran popped down because he knew he was going to be King, he must have seen this all coming. Yet he didn't warn anyone about the razing of King's Landing? He's the true evil of this show.
  • Where the hell did all those Unsullied and Dothraki come from? Didn't they all die a few episodes ago.
  • Why didn't Jon Snow just say Daenarys got angry, burned the throne and flew off on her dragon? Oh wait this one makes sense, it's because Jon is a fucking idiot.

I'm sure if GRRM ever gets round to finishing the book the ending will make a lot more sense!

I definitely disagree. After the tv series passed the books the writing has been atrocious. I joked back last season that they'd got the intern in to do some of the episodes. Now I think the intern might be in charge.

I've generally found the writing in these last few seasons absolutely terrible compared to the early ones, but Tim is right - there will at least be a lot of memes!

Had this trailer appear before End Game today.  The TIE scene at the start feels dumber every time I watch it.  Maybe it will make more sense in the context of the film itself, but its JJ Abrhams so I won't hold on much hope for that.

Have also seen it.  Tried to get it in as quickly as possible to avoid spoilers.

Isn't half of Monster Hunter crafting? The other half being killing monsters in order to get crafting materials.
