Gaming General / Doom on Mobile
« on: July 31, 2019, 06:55:20 PM »

lol, what idiots but needs to be mentioned.  Its a single player only experience.  They say the login is for those who want "slayers club" bonuses and to prove they bought and played the old games.

Anyway, I got on my iPhone and fired up Doom2 first as that was the first one I could get.  I fired up Ultra Violence as I've played it a lot and know it .. but I didn't know these controls.  I died half way in the first level!  Level knowledge only gets you so far when you are working on aiming/moving/shooting.

With a bit more practice I've gone through Doom1 Episode 1 Ultra Violence 100% now.  I've started on Episode 2 and doing ok so far.  I think Episode 4 will be too much as will some Doom2 maps.  I see Master Levels are there .. my least prefered but I might try them last.  A bit sad no Final Doom (that I've seen yet).  Map 32 of Plutonia on a phone would have been epic ..

Haven't seen Doom3 in the store yet for some reason.

Also Doom2 came up from "Bethesda" but Doom from "id"  ..odd.  Epic credit screen for the new bits.  Well worth spending a few $ for something I am playing and enjoying.

Finally cheats are in a menu if you want to turn on and have a blat which is a nice tough.

He is playing “the new order” from 2014 not the 2019 games.

Assist that’s one I’ve been meaning to go back to.  I started it. Enjoyed others from the series

Its almost as if all the money is in Sales/Marketing types who pay publishers without any actual tech people having any say or control in anything.  Best to avoid that Dogturd_in_a_bag_on_fire

One of my favourite ever platformers has come to steam!

They want $20 which sorta sucks, but the nostalgia might make me get it anyway.    I played this pre internet, it had no game saving, so you pushed on, and if you failed you had to start over, but by that time you'd been on the computer too long and had to come back another day.  It took quite some time to beat the game as there was a lot of trial and error.

Its not the best platformer I've ever played but every now and then I've looked for this game on steam, so amped to see it finally turn up!
Its 30 years old now and looks it.  Sounds like a few new features, screw the new graphics.  The music from the intro is gone which is a massive shame.

Just a matter of time til I get this!  oh and it has achievements! I haven't actually got any new steam achievements in almost 6 months but this has me excited.

Apparently it has leaderboards and a speedrun mode too!

Well there was  sale, I had time so I bought it, played it, and did ALL the things I did in the past and didn't know how to do before.  It was WONDERFUL!  Ended up with 100% achievements after 15 hours.  The first hour was pretty awful as they change the controls.  Previously you had the arrow keys and one button to do everything else (shoot, jump, levers).  Having different buttons meant in my head I knew what I wanted to do .. but then found myself jumping into monsters.  The second hour took a it of time where I would basically try to say out loud "ok I want to shoot, so I need to press CTRL" then did it and then got into the groove and never looked back.

So frustrating .. but very much worth it.

The speedrun thing I did last, it was fun and not frustrating to see if I could get through the 12 levels in less than 60 minutes.  In the end I was 51 and a bit minutes so had some time to spare.  I ended up 4th on the speedrun ladder so far.

@Darkness: if you find yourself with a few pounds that need to be spent, I'd suggest you try it at the next sale :)

I think there is a parallel universe out there where I enjoy Borderlands like I did with Diablo.  I'd play every class and get them all to max level.  In that scenario I'd be doing raid bosses and getting the loot.  Even about 10 years ago when the first one came out, I had far less variety and options of other games to play now.I struggle to play any "time sink" games now.

For someone like Sssith who is putting in the work to get the legendaries and getting the levels, I think you should eventually tackle the raid bosses.  Maybe even with one other person.  Sometimes you need a bit of a strategy, but I've seen some can be soloed.    Its not something I'd ever done myself, but I can see it being worthwhile for you guys who are enjoying the game when you are all leveled up.

Don't forget Sir Hammerlock!  Everything is dull after Tina.  Are you going to play the new one?  Torques can be fun with all the shouting and killing

At one point I was going to do it, but really its just a bloody long grind, even in pub games where you only have to do part of the work.  The rewards you get along the way don't help justify the effort compared to fun in other games.

The "So Happy Together" trailer.  Let's see
1) A bunch of the community is not happy, see Steam users.  See all the Randy is a cock club.
2) Together: on the same day its announced that there will not be cross play at launch.  Also see PC users forced to use Epic which is not about togetherness.

3) Also it is nice but shit compared to the Wimmoweh trailer for BL2

End result, especially after Wimmoweh and BL2, that the actual gameplay will be dull compared to the fun of the vid.

Tina is rated 15/10. Pirate was fine but not exactly memorable a few years later. Do play all at least once

Hey Grogs!  I remember Pipers 1st birthday party. Its been too long, don't stay a stranger!

And a Lemming post too!  Where have you been?

Also, what is wrong with PoE apart from Gender issues?  For someone like Grogs who puts between 500-5000 hours into a game at a time, I'm sure PoE would be for him as he probably did everything he would already do in D3.

Unlocked 8 Jul @ 12:08pm

That is where the majority of my tokens went.  I started with 4000 tokens unspent from Lunar New Year.

wow!  Personally I used them to boost the badge and my steam profile.  I got a new showcase.  I wasn't going to play games to boost it

Early game sucks compared to later. Push in and do all quests to level up
