Gaming General / Re: Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

So my son got me the game for my birthday.  I've installed it but haven't played it yet.  Maybe if I get a chance tonight after work.  Can't normally have sound on as I'm usually playing in the living room on my laptop while either the wife or kids are watching tv

Thanks for the reviews/comments.  I've been thinking of spending the 30 bucks to give it whirl after the read a bit about the game.  Looked like it would be right up my alley.  Just need to remember the headphones as I tend to play game with the sound off and this game really needs sound.

I've tried a few differ changes (dropping all the settings to low, and a mix of setting changes) but nothing seems to have an effect.

Diablo 3 / D3 is running poorly on my laptop
« on: July 26, 2017, 04:50:47 PM »
My laptop is not new by any stretch of the imagination but it's no slouch either.  It's an Intel i7-4720HQ, with 16G memory and an Nvidia GTX980M gpu.  For most games this laptop works just fine.  I havent been playing D3 for quite some time but with the release of the Necromancer, I figured I buy the new content, and fire up the game.  And it was just crap.  At first I figured the lag and stuttering fps was just that there were a lot of people running D3 again, and then I thought maybe it's my nvidia driver so I updated to the latest driver.  Some blog posted that changing the power settings would help, no such luck.  And then there's the very odd behavior that the power supply isn't keeping up.  As I'm playing with laptop plugged in, the battery is actually loosing charge.  Not a lot but maybe 5% per hour or so.

Any thoughts?  HC is quite risky as I really can't tell where I am under a lot of conditions.  And the game is quite frustrating to play as it jumps, pause, skips ... almost unplayable.

I've only played PoE and you can play it solo if you want, and you can now specify that you are self found so no trading.  To me that isn't an issue with PoE, it can very easily be played solo.  The issues are: 1) the massive skill tree makes charting your path very much a daunting task unless you just follow some predefined path, or wander aimlessly.  The mixture of skill gems + stats + added capabilities from the tree makes for a lot of diversity.  And 2) I play mostly HC, and the game is quite unforgiving of mistakes.  Miss-click and you can be quite dead.  On the plus side the death leaves your character intact but now a SC character.  I mostly just delete the SC ones that get created that way.  The story line is not awful but after the Nth run, like D1, D2, and D3 it's yeah yeah click click to get thru the dialog.  I have never gotten a HC character into cruel and I'm looking forward to see what the big update is going to look like.

For goodness sake, someone here must be older than 57...Anyone?

If it's any consolation, I'll be 56 in September :)

From what I've read, it is pretty well established that age *is* a factor in the motion sickness from video games/VR/AR.  But there are a lot of variables, so your mileage may vary.  What I do know is that I never use to have an issue and now do, and while it's not bad at the moment, I suspect it will only get worse.

Well at 55, I am also finding the reflexes aren't there and I like to play HC which can get frustrating.   I play PoE as well and it is very unforgiving of mistakes.  Unfortunately, I've also recently started to notice that some games that never triggered motion sickness has started to do that.  Not bad but I imagine it is going to get worse.  There is a bit of the boredom, but I can put in a hour or two or more as long as I have some objective.

Diablo 3 / Re: Necro Roll Call!
« on: July 10, 2017, 03:56:53 PM »
Got my softcore necro to level 70 and finished the game last night.  Had my first death in Act 5 which was sad, probably would have been sadder if it was HC.  I will start up my HC version next, now that I have some idea what the skill do, although I never got around to using the golem.

Haven't had as much time to play as I'd like.  My necro is up to Act 3, lit the towers, and raised the catapults.  Playing with revives at the moment.  I was using Corpse Explosion but switched for not other reason than trying out skills.  Somewhere in the 50's at the moment.  Been playing campaign mode at Master's level.  Progress is a bit slow as I just haven't found many useful items, and I don't really want to dip too deeply into the cache of stuff.

I bought it last night, and started my necro.  I'm doing the campaign mode, well because that is just how I roll.  About half way thru Act 1 before I need to get myself to bed.  What I can't tell is if the sluggishness that I'm seeing is just my machine or the servers but last night was laggy as all get out.  I'm liking some of the skills and corpse explosion is fun as always. :)

I'd be interested just need to deal with the coordination of time zones and RL. I'm usually playing from around 10 pm to 12 during the  weekdays GMT -5/Eastern time zone. I haven't played D3 for a while and would have to make room for a character or two. I've been playing Path of Exile instead.

Really depends on the employer.  I've had bosses that bend over backwards for employees, and ones that don't give a damn.  I lost a promotion because I misread how my boss would reach to some news.  From that point I've make sure that any information I give them will have the kind of outcome that I want.  I would find someone who you trust and sound them out about your situation.  Best of luck how ever it plays out
