General Discussion / James Mureness/Tarr
« on: April 26, 2019, 03:57:55 PM »
I'm not sure what his forum name was (now confirmed he was Tarr), but James Mureness is linked as a friend to many of us on Facebook, so I thought I'd post a thing here.

James was shot and killed on Wednesday while sitting at a bus stop in Tacoma.

I always enjoyed his facebook posts... which were largely acidic and political, and with a very "take no shit" attitude.

This makes me sad.

General Discussion / Black Friday sales
« on: November 23, 2017, 07:55:58 AM »
Anyone scooping up anything cool?

I refuse to leave the house on Black Friday because screw that craziness. But I did dispatch a friend to Gamestop yesterday to pick up the new Uncharted for $20 for me. So far I haven't seen anything else that has compelled me to buy it, though I might maybe be tempted by a Ninja blender so I can properly blend all the blendable things...

Gaming General / The Evil Within
« on: October 27, 2017, 11:07:24 PM »
Anyone play it?

This is my scary season game this year. I'm up to chapter 4 and finding it really good so far, though the controls are dodgy. It's a good mix of creepy and "wtf?" along with a healthy dose of "Japanese game designers are whacked."

I was gifted The Evil Within 2 earlier tonight so I may have to play them both back to back...

So, NeoGaf is dead because the owner is scum. Much lulz. Where will all those wanker gaffers go now?  ;D

Books / "Classics"
« on: July 28, 2017, 11:38:11 PM »
There are a huge number of "classic" books that I have managed to never read in my life, having early on been steered deep--oh so deep--into fantasy and the like. At this point in my life, I would like to correct this oversight. But even googling up "classics you must read"-type lists is a bit overwhelming and lacking in consensus or even direction.

So what would you say? What are the classics you most think a person should read at least once in their life? (and any "why" you want to add would be super helpful :P )

Thanks :)

Gaming General / Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
« on: July 28, 2017, 09:44:15 PM »
Is anyone else has off the charts hyped for this as I am? Only a few more days!!!!

Today's release trailer:

I've been following this game for a couple years. I preordered it the day it hit the store. It just looks so amazing.

For those who haven't followed it, some tidbits:

- It's made by Ninja Theory (Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, DMC: Devil May Cry, Heavenly Sword)
- Website link:   The dev video blogs are phenomenal.
- The game explores schizophrenia. To this end, they met with tons of psychiatrists and sufferers of schizophrenia to represent it accurately and fairly in the game.
- The 3d sound in this is mindblowing. I am so excited to play it with a full 5.1 speaker set up cranked in volume.
- The girl who plays the lead character (Senua) is also one of the dev team - a video editor. She started off as a placeholder, just helping them on the tech for the game and they loved her performance so much they offered her the job.
- The real-time graphics in this. OMFG. Like seriously... check this shit out!

Look at these graphics!

Oh. Store link:

Best part? $29.99

Maybe we don't need an andromeda forum after all and I can just roll this into the general gaming forum?

Also, I was sure this was going to be my GOTY. Then I played Horizon Zero Dawn. I'm sorry, Bioware. I'm sorry.

Gaming General / Bayonetta on PC
« on: April 11, 2017, 04:30:14 PM »
So... Bayonetta finally released on PC today, via Steam for $20. Having heard nothing but good things about this for years, I naturally have to play it now. It looks ... interesting.

Anyone else planning on snapping it up?

Gaming General / Free week: Elder Scrolls Online
« on: April 10, 2017, 12:10:09 PM »
Elder Scrolls Online is having a free play week from the 11th to 18th if you have an interest in checking out a really fantastic MMO that started off really badly...

If you like Elder Scrolls at all, it's worth a look. If you like MMOs, it's worth a look.

It's on PC, XB1, and PS4.

Gaming General / About this sub
« on: April 05, 2017, 09:41:24 PM »
If you're going to talk about spoilers, even if a game is 10 years old, put it in a clearly marked [spoilers] thread.

For now, we'll start with this basic set up. If a game gets enough chatter and discussion/interest to merit its own sub, we can do that pretty easily. Conversely, if a sub goes dead for a while, we'll archive it so the Gaming forum doesn't get cluttered with stagnant games.
