PlugY's not kosher by SPF standards, for what it's worth.

I don't think I'd want to use it for inventory management anyway, since GoMule is so much more powerful.

I think this article is the best take I've seen on it from a western outlet:

It's not to say that it's a bad game or plagiarized or anything, but it's frustrating to see the demographic that's normally dismissive of Japanese media in general and especially VNs tout DDLC as something bigger than it actually is; the implication that it took an American to revolutionize the genre past decades of stagnancy in its homeland is uncomfortable, at best.

DDLC is... not nearly as original as western media makes it out to be.

It's alright though.

It's nice to feel smug about it, but the other three games are also on sale for Black Friday while Battlefront isn't. There's a high chance that having to hold back stock in reserve for the weekend might have been involved.

Now that Black Friday is actually here and we've had some sales, there are more of these karma farms up:

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is still in stock at Target for $15 if you wanna save a bit more.

I bought for myself... a PC prebuilt/VR headset bundle with the intention of selling the VR stuff, Automata, on the fence about buying Ace Attorney 6 at half off, and I might crack open a copy of Wolf 2 or Bioshock Collection to play those. Beyond that, just some inventory.

Right, but the rhetoric surrounding media coverage of the game makes it out to be a Chinese MMO.

My take on it is that:

1. Modern Warfare 1 came out in 2007, and unlocking stuff with leveling up and playtime has been a staple of multiplayer console shooters at least since then. Clearly, the mass audience has no problems with gameplay not being on a level playing field - if anything, the availability of tons of stuff to unlock is a selling point, not a disadvantage (see the market's rejection of Titanfall).

If Battlefront's progression system had the numbers tweaked so that higher quality star cards were less dramatic upgrades over common quality ones, things would be better. If crafting costs were cheaper (right now, crafting a common takes an hour and a half of play on average?), things would be better. If higher qualities of the same star card had smaller numerical advantages over lower ones, things would be better. I don't think the system's great, but I also don't think it's something that's fundamentally wrong that adjustment wouldn't be able to fix.

2. Battlefront is even more casual than its competitors. Odds are that losing an engagement because someone else had better numbers than you will have about zero impact on the progression of the match when the dominant game mode is 20v20 objective-based. Apparently when there was going to be an Overwatch-like hero competitive mode, box rewards were going to be cosmetic only, but Disney vetoed that, so we'll never know.

Well, that's productive.

Can you explain to me why it's "totally" p2w? Knowing your history with PvP games, I'm assuming that you haven't actually played it, but I could be wrong.

The path that EA took on this was bullshit of the absolute highest order and I'm glad it backfired on them to the point that it's being looked into as gambling disguised as a game.

It was pay-to-win taken to a ludicrous extreme.
It really wasn't.

I don't like the implementation of star cards in the game, but there's no need to perpetuate hyperbole about it.

Campaign mission design has gotten quite a bit more sophisticated since the 90s; plenty of missions are of the hero RPG variety with no basebuilding or offer objectives other than the standard annihilation type.

Here is a specific rundown of everything that will be available to you for free:
  • The original Wings of Liberty campaign. Experience the original epic campaign that kicked off the StarCraft II saga! If you picked up Wings of Liberty previously but haven’t come back to StarCraft II in a while, we’ve got good news for you too—if you purchased Wings of Liberty prior to October 31, 2017, you’ll receive the second installment in StarCraft II’s campaign, the zerg-focused Heart of the Swarm, as a limited time offer from November 8 to December 8. Make sure to log in during that window to claim it!

  • You will be able to access the ranked multiplayer ladder to compete with other players to become the best of the best, complete with all of the multiplayer units from Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, and Legacy of the Void. All you have to do to unlock it permanently is earn 10 First Wins of the Day in Unranked or Versus A.I. play—our way to preserve the quality and integrity of the ranked experience.

  • Current and upcoming Co-op Commanders are available to play for free up to level five, and the level restriction for weekly mutations has been removed. You’ll be able to tackle these extra challenging missions with your friends right away. The Co-op Commanders Raynor, Kerrigan, and Artanis will remain completely free, meaning that you can keep leveling them to your heart’s content.
