Title: the next doctor
Post by: syn on July 16, 2017, 01:58:20 PM
Doctor Who: Jodie Whittaker announced as 13th Doctor (https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/jul/16/doctor-who-jodie-whittaker-announced-13th-doctor)

i never really caught on to capaldi, tho i think that was more moffat's fault than capaldi's. chibnall/whittaker should be a good change.

it might be a bit jarring a new writer and new actor.  Will be interesting but of course we get one thing at Christams time, then have ot wait months to see the main show.

Hottest doctor yet though ;)  In the past its been funny female friends that rate one doctor over the other that way.

I think they should make her wear Tom Baker's scarf as a sort of who-hazing.  :p

I've never understood people's fascination with Doctor Who.  So...meh.

my wife was into it, she would watch it and I was in the room so I'd be passively watching it.  It seemed to not make sense how they are losing/not powerful, then a switch happens and the doctor is in total control.

Then a switch is thrown and you are a big fan and just get it.

One of the best bits about doctor who, they don't need big CGI, makeup etc to get your fear/excitement going, sometimes they throw out a few things and your imagination fills in the rest.  When did the latest Michael Bay explosion get you going?  Compared to reading a good book where you read some great prose and it gets your mind thinking ..

Its a great and flawed character, intelligent, lonely, has saved the world countless times, has killed so so many, has lost so much too.

I'll reserve judgement for the time being (no pun intended), but on the surface she looks completely wrong.  If you were going to have a woman, I would have though something more like a "tough guy" doctor like Ripley or Aeryn Sun or perhaps an older analytical women like Judi Dench's M; Jodie Whittaker looks a little too cutesy.
