That does seem like some nice improvements.  Though the pimpernel and sandhawk were not given a boss run.

That is tempting.

My Axton is level 22 and only doing the mainline quests.  Need to figure out a good way to get some levels as I am at the same level as my quests.  My list of uncompleted quests is a mile long right now.

Like D3 (before the expansion) or D2 the real game is UVHM and getting to level 72; and if you really feel tough 0P8.  In order to do that you really do need to farm for gear.  D3, with expansion, makes it really easy to get base line gear.  That said if you want to run the high level GRs you have to go back to grinding for the top end gear.

Sal is good for Raid bosses because of the grog 'exploit'.  Not a true exploit but pretty close.  As for Maya I don't think she is good for solo Raiding.  Multiplayer she is great to have along because she can boost the whole party.  It is possible that I suck at her and that I am wrong but the problem with Boss and Maya is that Phase lock does nothing, or very little, to them.  A lot of her skills depend on having phase lock up.  The one thing she can do is use a Sandhawk with a bee shield.  That combined with reaper can take down a boss health quickly.  The problem lies in getting a Sandhawk that is the right level. edit -- There is also a COM that boosts SMG damage that is important to have.

As for Axton I don't have all the info but the trick lines in taking advantage of a tediore weapon reload where you throw the weapon on the boss.  He has very fast reload and with the resulting explosion and buffs he can supposedly tear down a boss quickly.  I guess somewhere the is a site that has a record of the best speeds for boss running and that Axton is at the top of those lists.

This would be fun if I was really into the game.  I don't see this sucking me back just to do this.

I'll wait for the next expansion...

That would make things more fun.  The runewords were a fun gimmick.

Looking at that list I think I had an Ist drop from the countess.  I know I had an Um drop.  The rest of my good runes came from give-aways.

It seems to me that, for the most part, Axton's skills are well thought out giving you a lot of choices on how to do the build.  There are a couple must haves like bullet storm, sentry and ready, then you get to branch off in different ways.  You can be a jack of all trades and have good survivability, you can be grenade focused, or you can specialize in turrets.  I am kind of digging the versatility.  In Maya, who I think is pretty well designed, you kind of need to go with Ruin in order to do UVHM.  The comparable skill for Axton is Double Up where your turret gets slag.  But with Axton you can ignore that and use your grenades to take care of the slag for you.

At this point I am leaning toward doing a Double Up, Grenade combo build.  Not really sure but I am liking the idea of having a ton of fireball grenades.  All good choices.  I have also heard that by Axton is the top solo Raid Boss Killer.  Has something to do with using the explosion from Tediore reloads.  Haven't fully looked into that as I find the Raid bosses annoying as hell.

Have the drops been improved.  I forget the rune hierarchy but I think my best was something like an Ist.

All the low level stuff.  Nice, always a need for that.  I generally work higher up in the web services area, though certainly not in a gaming company.  I have been tempted to apply a couple of times but the 24-7 nature of the world is not for me.  Glad the new gig treats their people well.  I have heard good things about Montreal.  I was looking into it because my son was/is thinking of apply to a school near there; Bishop University.

I went back to playing Axton.

I am going to try to streamline leveling.  The goal is to mainly do just the main quests on first and second play through.  I am going to try to level up by doing certain runs.  The target is fifty by the end of TVHM.  At that point I will settle in for a fuller play through.

I will probably play Brick more, when I do I will need to level him more.

I got to the safe house for BL1 and I am completely under leveled.  A bit frustrating, not sure if I will push through.  Need to see how to level up more, as I have done all the missions up to this point.

I have finished up my Maya lvl 72 UVHM play through.  I gave a try to kill Teramorphous, and that was ridiculous, so I gave up.

I am going to take a small break from her.

I actually got going on Borderlands 1 with Brick.  Punching stuff is fun.

Very nice.  I have always wondered about the culture of gaming companies.  They have always seemed all encompassing.

I hope you get to work on some fun stuff.

So I did two things over the last couple of play throughs.  The first is that I farmed a bunch of Hammer Busters.  My goal was to find a Boss with a Jakob grip.  Mission failure.  I did learn that the Horse prefix is actually pretty damn good and I would argue the second best behind the Boss.  Horse gives you the extendened magazine and it goes from 13 to 25 (or something close to that).  That might not sound great but it is actually amazing.  With horse you are able to keep firing and generally clear what ever fight you are in before you can reload at your own pace.  Without it you are going to need to reload during the fight.  Huge difference.  I never did get a Jakobs grip and the one time I got the Boss prefix it was under leveled.

So these are the variables for the weapon
  • Grip
  • Prefix -- I think this maps to the accessory that is on the weapon
  • Weapon Level
  • Stock
  • Sights -- don't really matter unless you are looking for a particular type of magnification

That is a lot of variables when hunting for a perfect weapon.  In the case of the Hammer Buster I was looking for Jakob grip, Boss (damage) prefix, level to match your current lever (72), Dahl stock, and I don't care about the sights.

The second thing I did was go to the caustic cavern.  I waited until I had the treasure map so I would only have to do this once.  Holy shit this was a tough area.  On the way there I decided to run Savage Lee for an Unkempt Harold as mine was under leveled.  Thank god I did as killing level 72 Crystalists was a huge F*ing pain in my ass.  I had maxed out my money at 99 million before going in.  By the time I was done I was down to 80.

I still want to run the area for the Blockhead shotgun.  Not sure if I will because this would replace the Harold.

I think I am going to have to kill Jack again.

Mordecai was my main BL1 character so I was not happy with what happened to Bloodwing.

Yeah...I have heard about that.  They are changing the skills around to make it work.

I can only imagine that they are doing this as part of their ramp up for BL3.  At this point I am much more hopeful for BL3 than D4.  There have been several reports that BL3 is in the localization process and that it will come out some time next year.
