A few hours into the patch and a Necro has solo cleared GR96...

I kinda want to pick up the necro, but I'm having a really hard time justifying $15 for a $5 DLC, especially in the midst of the Steam sale.

I explored the new zones with a fresh necro and then started doing rifts.  Currently in the 40s.  Hope to hit 70 soon and start messing with the sets.  I really like using corpse explosion and bone armor so far.  I am happy to have 2 new character slots and 2 new stash tabs.

I can completely understand that. The only reason I even ended up grabbing it was because i remembered that I still had a wow token on my WoW account, and I figured I may as well redeem it for Blizzard Bucks or whatever they're calling them, and it was just enough to get the necro for free basically.
Don't mind me. I'm just admiring the shape of your skull.

I bought it last night, and started my necro.  I'm doing the campaign mode, well because that is just how I roll.  About half way thru Act 1 before I need to get myself to bed.  What I can't tell is if the sluggishness that I'm seeing is just my machine or the servers but last night was laggy as all get out.  I'm liking some of the skills and corpse explosion is fun as always. :)

I bought it and only managed ~20 minutes of play. I started a new toon on Hard in Adventure mode. I have loads of crafting mats and Gem of ease from my other characters, but decided I wanted to level her up the old-school way so just playing it slowly and trying out the skills as they become available.

It was actually $22 here because of the exchange rate, but I bought it straight up because I know I'll get it eventually and $22 now is still $22 in a few months time.

I'm doing the campaign mode,

same here. also enjoying CE. haven't noticed in game sluggishness but loading the game itself seems a lot longer. had issues after initially installing the patch, but it's working at the moment (knocks on wood).

Well I decided to buy the pack but I haven't played the necromancer yet, I'll wait for a season so I start clean. Enjoying the stash space though :). Instead I took an old character round the new areas released at the same time, I really like the Act II moors but I fail to see the point of all the areas in Act IV... you can move between different tilesets on the same map, big whoop ::)

I started playing the campaign last night and nearly got to Zoltun Kulle.  I haven't played through the campaign in years, so this is definitely deja vu all over again.

Necro is fun, only one set is powerful enough to do high Grifts it seems.

I started a totally twinked Necro and blasted to 70 along with Bob and then finally got some value out of the hordes of crafting mats I've amassed and in no time had the Rathma set outfitted. Almost immediately I didn't care for the game play and scanned the leaderboards. It seemed like everyone was using the Inarius set. I had already crafted Inarius pieces while crafting the Rathmas so it didn't take long to secure the remainder. It was instantly obvious why the build was dominating the leaderboards; powerful, reasonably durable when you keep up the defensive buffs and a fun and effective escape/speed skill.

I haven't played the other 2 sets yet but I'm planning on it. I do hope Blizz buffs the other sets to get better build diversity in time for the season because right now it's 90% 1 Inarius build on the leaderboard and that will reduce the longevity of the class in reasonably short order.

And on the second day...I started a new Necro and began playing her untwinked through the campaign. No paragon and only found items and gems. Was tons of fun with corpse explosion and Command Skellies. Fun to see all the old haunts of the campaign, but it did often remind me that Blizz could do so much more with it; make it more rewarding, a little more random. I don't know exactly how to do it but I'm sure it could be done. It has huge potential.
