I looked back in the old forum, see some of the angst about the changes etc.  I'll get there when I can find someone who has them, we may have the first one, not 100% sure.

One of the points in that old thread was quite interesting when you watch the show without reading the book, you hit a certain point and you think .. this is one sick bastard :D

I'm guessing everyone who read this has probably got this far in the show.  I just didnt' want spoilers from the season airing this year.

I've had little bits of spoilers here and there, especially some of the advertising you know certain characters won't die.

I've watched up to the end of season 6, it is very good but I don't care about it enough to go out of my way to see it and I wait till I can find it cheap or free (e.g. I first watched season 6 flying between London and Singapore, which wasn't very conducive to following it closely!). I am occasionally reading spoilers for season 7, because I want to see where the story goes and don't really believe that spoilers actually spoil anything unless it's a twist ending like The Sixth Sense.

I thought season 5 and season 6 were much weaker than the first 4, partly because they started to go beyond the current point in the books so have to find their own way between the major plot points, partly because they need to get to the end in a fixed schedule so are compressing the story even more and sending it down a railroad, and partly because I think some fan-favourite characters are being developed as crowd pleasers rather than to serve the story. I'm looking forward to watching it to the end though.

The books also decline in quality as they go on, the first is really good but they start to get more bloated and the writing quality (never great) declines. I think like Harry Potter it became so popular that the editors couldn't say no (and also it would sell no matter what so not worth investing too much in production). I don't mind the plot and character changes, I think most of them are improvements. I agree with something I read somewhere that said the writers for the show are good at turning the extensive source material of the books into something filmable but not very good at expanding the limited projections of future plotlines.

I am enjoying the show.  That said I haven't yet been able to get myself to read the books yet.

The show is really good, but I am not in the group that thinks it is the most amazing thing ever.  It is highly entertaining and worth watching and I look forward to new episodes.

I really hate "having" to see the TV series before I can read the new books- if they're ever published. (Doubtful, which is why I watch the series)

That said, some episodes of the new season are epic (#2 and #4 IMO)

And the graphics on the fullgrown dragons are awesome...
