What did you settle on?

BTW I have used Kaspersky for years but am now going to switch, since my auto-renew has been invalidated due to US companies no longer supporting it due to concern that the company is using it to steal data for the Russian government.  Maybe, maybe not.  But it's still a hassle I don't need.

Primal puzzle ring. Would be a good thing if Blizzard had included a primal vault. Can you imagine? Packs of gobs in every room all the way to Greed. Greed herself would be shooting off gobs like multi coloured popcorn and when finally slain she would drop a dozen treasure chests.

The way I envision it, it would take an afternoon to bring all the loot back to town.

Yup.  And you'd only have 60 seconds before the room closed.   ::)

I've spent far too much time back and forth with my mom's health issues to do a ton of reading.  But I finished The Walker Papers at least.  Shaman Rises was about what was expected.  Enjoyable but not mindblowing.  I don't mind.  I started this series literally years ago and it was nice to read the conclusion.  It was even vaguely satisfying.  4/5

This was horrible to watch:  http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/news/ryan-shazier-injury-update-hit-video-steelers-back-improving/qfj5rw6enqkf1l386xaxy45zl
Some of his teammates were crying on the sidelines when it was obvious that he couldn't move his legs at all.
Thankfully there's hope that he'll recover fully -- but they don't know for sure.

So I've read the next couple of The Walker Papers, by C.E. Murphy.  Raven Calls was a good read that took things in some slightly new but not unexpected directions.  Another solid 4.5.  Mountain Echoes wasn't as interesting to me, for a lot of reasons.  Still good, but more predictable than I'd like.  Down to a 4 for this one.  And then there was No Dominion: A Garrison Report, which was a novella and a bunch of short stories put together to make a book.  Most of it was told from the point of view of the main character's best friend, who is also an important character in the series.  Very nice change of pace and important to fill in some of the blank spots I think.  I'll also give this a 4 although it verges on that extra .5
The very last book is up next.  We'll see how we end up.

Diablo 3 / Re: Laptop Recommendations?
« on: November 01, 2017, 02:19:17 PM »
We picked up a new laptop for Mrs. Orbert over the weekend.  Got a relatively low-end "gaming laptop".  Apparently a "gaming laptop" means that they're not worried about making the thing as tiny and lightweight as possible (which is what businesspeople usually want), so it's got a 15.6" screen, SSD hard drive, and an upgraded graphics card.  It's big and thick looking, compared to the "notebooks" you see these days, but since it's basically going to just sit on her TV table which she sits on the couch, portability was not nearly as important as performance.

The important thing is that we've been multiplaying Diablo III.  So we had to buy another copy of D3 (and D3X and the Necro pack) and set up another account, but that was expected.  I tried to warn her that she'd be starting from scratch, but she didn't really understand what that meant.  By time I started showing her D3 on my Orbert account, I had Paragon points, all the Artisans were trained all the way up, and everything was unlocked.  She's starting from literally nothing.  Can't go higher than Expert difficulty for now, no Adventure Mode until she's played through the Campaign at least once, and no (virtually) unlimited stash of gold and crafting materials to work with.

She got to Level 25 or so last night, and I told her that Haedrig should be able to make her a helm with hopefully a socket, so she could put the Ruby into it and get more XP faster.  She crafted three, no sockets, and was out of yellow crystals.  Oops.  Wow, remember those days?

Did she hit you?  :)
We're trying to do the same thing with Whitetiger.  But she's more interested in getting a new phone, so...
Eventually.
Also looking for a new one for me.  Currently thinking of a decent, middle of the road ASUS Republic of Gaming model as they have everything needed for more juicy games as well.

Dear Sssith and Dave,

Please feel free to screw yourself at great length, in your respective rectum-holes, with various and sundry instruments of death and ickyness.  Please allow me to suggest the tire iron, the chain saw, the samurai sword, the length of rusty pipe and the underage, herpes-ridden duck-billed platypus.

Love always,

So I finished up an Anthology called Urban enemies.  The stories therein are all told from the point of view of the bad guys in popular urban fantasy series.  Authors include such favorites of mine as Jim Butcher, Kelley Armstrong, Sean McGuire and Carrie Vaughn. It wasn't bad. Wasn't fantastic, but a small cut above the normal anthology drivel.  I'd hand this one a 3.5.
I also FINALLY got the next book in the Urban Shaman series.  Demon Hunts, by C.E. Murphy was a lot of fun, and I'd say it was slightly more well put together than the last of her books.  This one I'd hand a 4.5, the upgrade being mostly due to increased cohesiveness of the plot.

And now that I have that book, I can read the other 3 Urban Shaman books I've had languishing in my library for months.  I'm well into the next one already.   ;D

So the latest Seanan McGuire book came out - The Brightest Fell, which is an October Daye novel.  It's a whole lot of fun and also contains a novella at the end focused on a minor character, April O'Leary, who is a Dryad who lost her tree and was grafted into a dying server along with pieces of said tree before either died - making a new species.  The novella was actually even more fun than the Novel.  5/5 for sheer fun.
