so there's a youngish trekkie at work that actually claims to prefer this show to the new actual star trek (discovery). granted discovery is a mixed bag and a bit of a departure from the formula (for better or worse). i still haven't been able to bring myself to sit through an episode of the orville, but i gather it's been renewed for a second season...

Has anyone enjoyed orville?  Do you have to like Family Guy type of stuff to enjoy this?

I liked it and I don't watch Family Guy. The bits I've seen of FG haven't interested me at all. But I did enjoy Orville and will watch it again if there is a season 2.

I liked Discovery better, but I thought Orville was fun with good production values and a nice, dry sense of humour for the most part.

I wasn't involved, but I would love to be.  I think it's a good show.  And yeah, if I were writing a Trek-like show, this would be it.

People keep talking about Family Guy, they wondered if it was gonna be like Family Guy in Space, they didn't know if they'd like it because they don't like Family Guy, they were disappointed that it wasn't like Family Guy, they were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't like Family Guy...  At least half of what I've read regarding the show brings up Family Guy in one way or another.  Fuck Family Guy!  I've never watched Family Guy because what little I've seen looks stupid.  I watch The Orville because it's like Star Trek TNG only with real people.

It's been renewed for a second season, but there's still one episode from Season 1 that they haven't aired yet, so we're gonna get that episode kicking off Season 2, then the rest.  I hate it when they do that, because there's usually an obvious shift in tone and often casting changes between the first and second season of a show.  So now that the show has found its audience and found its feet, they screw it over by cutting the first season short, setting up a drop in audience of about 50%, and then will cancel it because of low ratings.
