so trump initially said he knew nothing about the meeting between junior and the others. now he says otherwise:

Quote
On Wednesday afternoon, Trump told Reuters that “No. That I didn’t know. Until a couple of days ago, when I heard about this. No I didn’t know about that,” referring to the meeting between Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya and Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort.

Trump changed his tune later in the day, when he told reporters on Air Force One: “In fact maybe it was mentioned at some point,” referring to the meeting. (Reporters on the plane initially thought the conversation was off-the-record, but the President said otherwise on Thursday.)

goddam but they're a bunch of idiots.

NBC is reporting that there was another person in the meeting with Idiot Jr.  A former Russian agent.  Guess Idiot Jr. forgot about that.  Oh, but it's OK because Idiot Jr. is a "good boy".  This shit just keeps getting better.

Syn's earlier statement is spot on.

I was a security manager (collateral duty) for over 20 years, we processed the requests
for security clearances. I find it outrageous that non-disclosure seems to be ok if you
"Amend" your input later, we never allowed that when I was processing clearances UNLESS
you had not signed the certification of the data yet. We have removed a clearance for
much less than this.

The latest rubbish about banning trans people in the military won't do much help for him.  The people who will be happy would have voted for him anyway.  Its not going to get people to forget about the Russia business, or that his namesake is in big shit.

no, but it distracts from the fact that the senate is 0-3 in voting for possible repeals of the ACA the past couple days.

1. repeal and replace with mcconnell's plan? nope, that plan sucks.
2. repeal and replace (with magical fairy dust 2 years from now)? not gonna happen.
3. repeal and don't replace with anything? nope, we don't like that either.

best question from today's press conference:

Quote
"Was the president aware that he can't make policy changes via statements on Twitter?"

in the meantime:

Quote
In a letter to the military service chiefs, Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that the policy on who is allowed to serve will not change until the White House sends the Defense Department a rules change and the secretary of defense issues new guidelines.

and re the ACA repeal, the senate parliamentarian ruled that the next option (the "skinny repeal") doesn't qualify for reconciliation. so, it needs 60 to pass rather than 50, and it was a longshot to get to 50.

lulz

Yeah, but RE: Dunford's statement - all he means is "we can't act on a tweet, but sure as hell as soon as this comes down to the Sec/Defense in writing, we'll be right on top of this, boys! Full speed oppression ahead!"
