Diablo (now with Diablo 4 Hype) / 2021 D2 Goals
« on: September 14, 2021, 05:23:53 PM »
So, many of you might be coming back for the first time in years.  I hope you are excited for later next week if you are starting fresh, or bringing some stuff over.

As for me, I have my "Operation Complete Normal".  Normal is both the most fun, and the most boring parts of the game.
Runewords.  After finally getting another Sur to make Beast, I'd love to complete the following this year.  Death (just need vex), Fortitude (need Lo). and stretch goals Beta CTA (need Ohm). Infinity needs two x Ber.    None of those are NEEDED by any characters, but the last 3 would buff anyone using them.

A grailer .. Its now been the longest time between grail finds.  Previously that was 1673 days from my Horizons in 2008 and Deaths Fathom in 2012.   Its currently 1996 days and counting.   Seeing Andy coming back and getting of bunch of grailers is inspiring.  Keep it up buddy!  I've had some TC87 luck myself .. just nothing new.

Another long term wish I have a new strategy for, racking a 1.07 Cranium Basher.  I was previously looking at Nilly's temple, but its loaded with monsters, the racks aren't stable and don't think it will work.  I'm looking at the Halls of Pain which I THINK only has one set of racks, but easy to find .. and not normally full of monsters.  If I do manage to get this, then I'd finally have one of everything gold and green pre 1.10.    Only downside to that is it would stop in 1.14 if i ever get a gold thundermaul that buzz of "I have a grailer .. but not sure which one!"

But the MAIN goal of all is to make it fun, and take breaks for other games at times too.

Diablo (now with Diablo 4 Hype) / D2R Launch Party!
« on: September 06, 2021, 01:00:42 AM »
September 23 for most of you.  September 24 (Friday for Aus and NZ).   I know quite a few of you have preordered, and it might be fun to see who will be online at the same time.

I'm sure some of  you will be in the same game on battlenet.  If you haven't seen, sharing your screen is easy in discord (and only for those in discord to have the option to see).

Dust, Supermatt and I had a discord voice chat the other night too.  I'm hoping we can do a similar thing depending on timezones.  Sadly as you know I won't be in D2R .. but I'll be doing something in D2 and feeding off your excitement!

Diablo (now with Diablo 4 Hype) / Mike Ybarra
« on: August 04, 2021, 04:44:10 PM »
One of the new coleaders of Blizzard.    Interesting gaming history for him mentioned:
"Ybarra is apparently a huge Blizzard fan. He says he played “every single Blizzard game there ever was” in college, claims to be the biggest Diablo fan that “exists in the world”, and that his love of World of Warcraft almost got him “fired, divorced, starved to death”. Indeed, he reckons he “never took showers” because he “played nothing but World of Warcraft for about the first three years of that game launching”. He eventually decided he needed to “cold turkey that thing”"

Having an actual gamer, a fan and someone who knows whats important and about that old school Blizzard polish should be a great thing moving forward

Diablo (now with Diablo 4 Hype) / Immortal now delayed till next year
« on: August 03, 2021, 07:12:22 PM »
Not that we mind I think?  We have a much better experience coming soon. They talk about more polish, but I wonder how much of that is there aren't people to actually work on it as they are out protesting?

I think I'll pick it up one day. I'm down to only one mobile game and soon running out of content.  I'm no longer playing anything that keeps shifting the goalposts or there is no chance of actually finishing.

Other Tech Toys / Steamdeck

It just sounds AWESOME.  I think for some people they might play a lot less mobile games if they can do this instead.  Certain newer games I just haven't bought as I can't run them. If I had this, that would change.

PCs / Windows 11
« on: July 04, 2021, 03:50:05 PM »
Well sounds like my aging PCs CPU is about 10 years behind the cut off point .. sounds like a bunch of current machines won't make the cut.  I see Windows 10 will be around till 2025.

PCs / New Power Supply advice
« on: April 03, 2021, 04:49:15 AM »
Well I have a second hand PC which is ancient by modern standards, but what do you know, its better than my almost 11 year old desktop!    I went to power it up and saw and heard sparks, then smelt some smoke from the PSU.  it was a 420W thing which had served it well as its first purpose.  I need something to replace it for a while till I finally buy an actual new one for me.

So whats a decent PSU for a desktop that will be doing games and not much else, might run 2 HDDs and not much else.  For arguments sake, here is a local place I could get stuff and they have an easter sale on now https://www.pbtech.co.nz/category/components/psu/shop-all?fs=16228746

Just so you know, over here we run 230V.  Ask any questions you need ..

PCs / New Computer "Theorycrafting"
« on: November 23, 2020, 10:15:04 PM »
Things have changed a bit, and next year may well be the year I get my next new machine.  I'm horribly out of date on things.  I remember that website logical increments being quite useful around tiers and setups.  However I feel I'm a bit blind to "why" they make some of their choices.  Whats the benefit of some stock parts, vs spend an extra $50 or $200 for next bits up.

If I'm doing this properly I should probably get a new everything.  My current screen on my old PC was a bit old when I got it.

I'll have a look around local pricing as things change a bit.

AMD/Intel for CPUs (I've never actually overclocked anything)
Motherboards? Does it really matter? Ideally I'll look for something that doesn't limit me to small numbers of RAM slots.  I don't normally get too much expansion stuff ..
RAM, whats minimum vs decent for the future? speeds?
RGB? lol?
Graphics?
HDD options?
Get a screen with all the Hertz and all the curves?
PSU?

Ideally I want to do VR, that alone has a few options

What do you think I should start dreaming about?

General Discussion / One of my best friends has unexpectedly passed
« on: October 18, 2020, 06:20:44 AM »
I'm a bit broken now, she dated a friend of mine in uni.  Their relationship didn't last but we had a friendship that went on about 18 years.  I knew she was in hospital, I knew there were multiple problems, but I did not expect this. It wasn't covid stuff though.  Someone you could talk to about anything.

Fuck 2020.

I've been thinking after I get these assignments out the way I need to talk to an EAP service about a few things.  That just got bumped up the priority list.

Diablo (now with Diablo 4 Hype) / Operation Complete Normal: continued
« on: August 17, 2020, 07:45:12 AM »
Here is a blast from the past  http://www.gamersoasis.net/backup/index.php?topic=18351.0

That CarBot animations D2 youtube videos have got me excited about the game and actually playing again!  I've got a few characters to beat normal Diablo, some taking a heck of a lot of time.

Currently taking some untwinked characters in 1.08 through normal act2.  Its slow going but fun getting levels, picking up rares, locking in those waypoints!

Only 15 characters left in it now.
9 in act 2 normal.
3 in act 3 normal.
3 in act 4 normal.

They cover patches 1.02, 1.06, 1.07 and 1.08.

The 1.07 are the strongest as they have had hand me down gear available!  At this rate I might be out of Act 2 by Christmas!

It looks more polished than before but basically d3 on a phone. No hint of release date. No talk of micro transactions.

With the sound effects it’s nostalgic and funny too

Gaming General / Bunch more EA games on Steam now! (25+)
« on: June 05, 2020, 05:18:49 AM »
Kinda something for everyone, some of the dragon age, Crysis 3, 3 more Need for Speeds.  I think some more are coming too

https://www.polygon.com/2020/6/4/21280673/ea-games-steam-release-origin-dragon-age-need-for-speed-plants-vs-zombies-command-conquer-access

I will pick up some of these soon!  I hope they go and get some more from their back catalogue.  People don't just want to buy and play things from within the last 3 years.

And look at all those people with 10 000+ games on their account, they are after a bargain for the next 1000.
