The Argument Chamber / Re: Coronavirus

It took a bit more time to ramp up here in Quebec, but it's finally here, every few days they lower the age target and I am now getting my first shot this Friday.

Playing quite a bit of Binding of Isaac with the latest expansion pulling me back in, and, always being on top of game releases, i just finished... X Com 2, which is as brilliant as its reputation made it sound. Massive improvement over the first one. Especially with War of the Chosen, enough build variety so that you can really tailor squads to your play style, a few mechanisms to limit the "Overwatch creep" way of playing as the only alternative, and a meta game which isn't as ridiculously punitive as X Com 1 where not knowing the proper build order would doom your campaign by mid-game. Even losing a mission is tough, but not the unrecoverable disaster it was in the first.

Probably going to get Ghost of Tsushima now (though I may also give a try to Captain Tsuabasa, which is a compulsive buy during a PSN sale as it it one of my beloved childhood series :D)

My main issue with the first Nioh was the loot mechanic, and unfortunately it seems Nioh 2 actually gets even further into the rabbit hole. I love the Souls game for how atmospheric they are, no atmosphere can take hold for me when half my time is spent in inventory management. The soulsborne-ish gameplay and diablo like loot systems are both systems I love, but the combination of both doesn't click for me.

So, do you plan to pace yourselves for the remaster now ?

While it does look like it is done with great respect for the original material, I don't know if replaying it would hold up to our rose-tinted-glass memories, but it sure is doing everything it should for me to want to find that answer by myself!

Movies & TV / Re: What are you watching?

For some of our most recent movies and shows:

Queen's gambit. Unoriginal opinion here, we indeed liked it a lot, very well built, and impressive performance by Anya Taylor Joy.
Knives Out: It was fun, and I love how it breaks the classic "whodunnit" structure. Incredible casting, sometimes a bit under-exploited, but still a very fun watch.
Cobra Kai. Loved the first season, we feel that some of the characters brought in the second season kind of bring the whole show down for a while, but second half of the third season becomes great again. Definitely eager to see what's next.

I've been playing a lot of Yakuza Kiwami too these holidays, and really liked it. It's dense enough I won't chain with another one back to back, but I'll definitely be picking up 0 at some point.
And now, I've just started Death Stranding. It's... a thing. I mean I really love just walking in those beautiful landscapes, it's its very own kind of zen exercise, which makes everything happening around more of an annoyance really.

Also spending soe time with Vermintide 2 again with some friends.

Strong "Epic Rap battles of History" vibes here :D

And here ya go, Bright Memory has a free "ray tracing benchmark" version to show off all the insane purties and test performance. :D

Ray tracing is just stupidly awesome. It's clearly the Next Big Thing that every PC needs to be built for.

Seeing this thread bit late to help, but I wanted to comment on this: the real revolution people seem not to notice enough is DLSS. This is pure magic, and an infinitely better solution to 4k support than raw power. DLSS frees enough power on your GPU to try tackling issues that seemed out of reach a few years ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gQ202CFKzA is a fun illustration.

But basically, it means you can render at 720p or 1080p, and get just as good or even BETTER image quality than native 4k by upscaling it, for a fraction of power. ALl that power you save, well... the mind reels at possibilities.

I'm very interested in Hades, but with my backlog and PC stability issues it will have to wait :(

I have become very addicted to Hades and spent a ridiculous amount of time in it.

I haven't popped here in a while, but my big gaming revelation of the year was Monster Hunter World (and its expansion). What should be the latest content patch was just released some tie ago, and I have spent hundreds of hours in the game. And... sure, I can see how it can get grindy (which game isn't after so much time ?) but that was a perfect "comfort game" for confinement.

Otherwise, quite tempted to jump on the Hades bandwagon, this looks quite interesting. And with AMD finally releasing a new gen of processors, I plan to build a new computer maybe around Christmas, to catch up on some games which probably wouldn't run well on my current PC (Control in particular).

*waves*

I haven't popped in here in way too long, how are you all doing ?
I think last time was two years ago, as I was moving to Montreal. Beyond of course the current plague, things have really been going well here, so definitely in Quebec for the long run now.
Anyways, now that I've found my way back here, I'll show my face more often, so talk to you soon!

Alright, so to share one of the bands I've enjoyed most the last two years (beyod the usual, I loved the last QotSA album but me loving QotSA is like saying water is wet) let me introduce you to Earthless. This is Black Heaven, their latest album released this year.

It's some psychedelic rock, heavy inspirations from 70's rock.

Co-op, you're going to want to start digging in the indie games from the PSN store. Many actually exist on PC, but couch coop can indeed be more pleasant on console.
Things like Towerfall Ascension, Overcooked... Rayman Legens if me recommending Ubisoft products isn't suspect yet :p

A quick google search later, I saw a few decent recommendations : Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, the Lego games in your favorite flavor (Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Harry Potter...) The Trine trilogy is worth checking too, as well as some of the more recent Resident Evil games if that's your thing.

For Horizon, the "enhanced" edition includes the DLC which adds a high-level zone, with a pretty interestng story. If you're confident you'll enjoy the game, go for it, you could also get the normal game and buy the DLC later if you want, might end up a tlittle bit more expensive.

Detroit is a difficult game to recommend, it's very hit or miss. Have you played any other Quantic Dream game ? If you liked Heavy Rain, go for it.

Otherwise, some console exclusive which come to mind are God of War (the new iteration has become some kind of hybrid between the former God of War and the Tomb Raider reboots IMO, it's some kind of Tomb Raider with extra focus on combat, using an axe instead), Spiderman, Red Dead Redemption 2.

I'm a huge fan of Bloodborne personally but I don't think that this is a genre you appreciate (Dark Souls-like game).
