Orbert, does your computer have a solid state drive (SSD) as its boot drive? I initially installed D2R on my D: and it was slow but then moved it to my SSD and its much faster.

I was going to get one, they were starting to become more common at the time and I thought it would be nice to have, but somehow the salesguy talked me out of it, convinced me that it really wouldn't make much difference for the types of apps I was running.  And for D3, Word, Excel, and surfing the net, he's probably right.  But I should've gone with it anyway.  I think that's the first time a salesperson has actually "downsold" me on something.

Any idea if it would be worth it now?  Adding an SSD and making it the boot drive?

I've always been behind the tech curve when it comes to PCs, because it's just not that important to me.  After all these years, Diablo is still the only game I play.  When D3 came out years ago, I couldn't run it, so I got a new PC, pretty much the minimum required to run D3.  Who'd've thought that D2 would come back and be my nemesis?

It looks great.  I love what they've done with the place.  But I literally click "Start" and pull out my phone and surf a bit while it loads.  I've never actually timed it, but I sweat sometimes the loading screen go a full 30 seconds or more.  I've read and answered emails while waiting for loads.  And the gameplay itself stutters and jumps on the lowest settings.

My Sorc and Amazon have killed Baal.  I may go back and finish my Barb, and by "finish" I mean Normal.  I still like the game, but the logistics are kinda sucking a lot of the joy out of it for me.

My Amazon killed Baal.  Normal.  I'm not sure if I'm going to continue, to be honest.  The load/unload times drive me insane, and I still run into lags of some kind while playing the game.  I think it's because my poor old PC is straining hard to play this game.

I played a little D3 tonight just for a change, and it was much less frustrating.

I'm running Players 8 and finding set items and uniques, and now my stash is getting full.  So I'm thinking about setting up GoMule, but I also seem to remember that most uniques and set items in D2 are actually kinda crappy anyway.  I'm thinking about just selling the crappy uniques that I'll never use.  But... it bothers me.  It's like they designed this game to cause maximum mental anguish to the player.

Finished Act I Normal with my Barb, got bored already, started an Amazon.  /players 8 all the way.  Just kill Coldworm the Burrower in Act II Normal.  She was Level 23 on the way into the wormy place, and I was hoping she'd hit 24 before Coldworm, as that's when you can get Immolation.  Yep, it worked out.

Yeah, more Shared Stash would be nice, but I'm just digging the fact that I don't have to mule anything, and am working with what I have just fine.  I kinda like having to make choices on what to keep and what not to, because if I saved everything "just in case" then I'd spend hours looking everything over every time I levelled.  What can I use now?  This keeps things manageable.

Happy Birthday to both of y'all!

My Sorc beat Normal Baal, and piddled around in Nightmare Act I a little bit before I started getting antsy, so I started a Barb.  Shared Stash is awesome. :)

Also, Baal is dead.  No deaths from him, although one death from the Minions of Destruction.  Damn, those guys are scary!

On to Nightmare!

What sorc build are you running, Orbert?

She was using Cold a lot because the Orb she found way back in Act I had +2 to Ice Blast or whatever the middle one is, plus a few other good mods.  But now that she has a Leaf, it's Flame On!  She'd been putting points in Firewall before, and now it does hundreds of damage per second, and her Hydras are getting pretty ridiculous too.  I don't know if this is an end-game build, but for now I don't care.  I'm just having some fun re-learning the game.

Flan!  Welcome back!

My Sorceress has killed The Ancients and is now wandering the Keep.  I forgot how big and confusing some of these areas are.  I kinda feel like doing full clears, but usually by the time I find the way to the next area I'm ready to just move on.  I think I've missed about 1/3 of the waypoints just because I didn't feel like wandering around looking for them.

She'd been using an orb and shield since Act I, since the orb was rare and had some +skills on it, so when she got the runes for Ancient's Pledge, she went ahead and made it, and upgraded her shield.  Then she found a nice two-socket staff with some +skills, perfect for Leaf.  Oops.  Not only did I use my only Ral rune, but you can't wield a staff and shield at the same time anyway.  Some rune-cubing later, I had another Ral, and made Leaf.  Ancient's Pledge went into the stash for someone else to use.  I like the Shared Stash.  Kinda makes me wonder why bother with one tab of non-shared, but I guess that's for the hardcore oldschoolers.

Since I wasn't clear on the Offline = SP thing, I didn't even think to up the /players setting.  I'd honestly forgotten about that, same as so many other things about this game.  I'm gonna keep it at P1 until I kill Baal, then probably do some leveling at P5 before moving on.  Or not.  We'll see.

Offline = single player

Groovy.  I kinda thought so, but wasn't sure.

Offline Sorceress killed Mephisto.  Still trying to get my head back into this game.  What helps a lot is that it feels very much the same to me, which I'm sure is the whole point.  The mechanics, the music, and the fact that the original game engine is running underneath has me forgetting that this is in fact D2R.  My fingers still do the D3 things sometimes.

I like looking at the scenery.  I admire the work the artists have put in, and I find myself stopping to look at stuff I "never noticed before" because it probably wasn't there before.

Ran into a bug in the Viper Temple.  She got stuck and couldn't move, could only spin in circles as I changed her intended direction.  Had to Town Portal out.

Also the bug where sometimes poison never wears off (either that or somehow it gets set to last for a long effing time) is still there.

Anyway, I'm having fun.

So is "Offline" = SP for purposes of discussion?  If not, then I'm not clear on the difference.

Played my Amazon a little bit, then got dropped from the server.  Ugh.

Then I remembered that you can create characters online or offline, so I started a Sorceress offline.  Killed Blood Raven so far.

Yeah, those loading screens are painful.  Basically sitting forever for... I'm not sure what.  Loading, I guess.

Made it to the Outer Cloister waypoint.  Pretty fun.  Mostly nostalgia, but still pretty fun.

I thought the Countess always dropped two runes.  She dropped a Ral, and I looked all over but couldn't find another one.  Into the Stash it goes.

Had an hour before I had to work, so I logged in.  Took half an hour to download and install D2R.  Oops, I forgot about that.  Finally started up the client.  Had to remember how to skip all the logo credits.  Watched the opening cinematic for a little, but time was running out, so I skipped out of it.

Question: How do you turn off the "closed captions" on the cinematics?  I can't find that setting anywhere.  I don't need "Ominous piano music" and other CC stuff.

Finally got to start a character.  Javazon (for now).  Had to remember key bindings, since most are different from D3.  My fingers kept hitting the D3 key controls.

Stopped by Akara, got the Den of Evil quest, headed out.  Killed a few Quill Rats.  Lost connection.  Stared at a blank screen (with the D2R logo in the bottom corner) for a while, finally realized I had to hit Escape to get back to the main menu.

Tried to start a new game with the character, but it couldn't find the character on the server.  Maybe I hadn't played her long enough for an autosave.  It was maybe a couple of minutes.  Tried again, got the same error.  By this point, I had about five minutes left before I had to log in for work.  I guess I'll try again tonight.
