Title: Path of Exile
Post by: Grogs on August 15, 2021, 05:11:34 PM
For all things Poe!

Am struggling farming a note in the wind, splitting time between Oasis and desert spring.... is getting tedious, have 1 of 4 after God knows how many hours this weekend... may just push through and complete some more Atlas then come back to it.

Randomly using Silver Coins and Got the Servants Heart prophecy, big bow upgrade and not one I was expecting!  Pretty happy, at least it's taking the pain of grinding the helm away!

I am running t9 maps pretty well right now.  Level 85.  My frakking bow is still only 4Linked which is a pain in the ass. My helm sucks.

What are you guys thinking of the new League (not counting the frakking nerfs)?  Personally I am finding it pretty tedious.  I do not enjoy spending time figuring out the optimal what to put down my charges.  And when they give you bonuses for chests you don't get the good chests and the opposite seems true.  Gwen and Rog have given me nothing. Danning (sp?) seems pretty useless right now.  Mr. T is the easily the best one right now.  I have picked  up a lot of good currency from him.

Playing a Raider has been pretty eye opening in terms of speed.  People have always emphasized the need for speed but it is really obvious now important it is as a survivability tool.  Combine it will phasing and the game plays so much nicer.  As a whole I like the Toxic Rain/Caustic arrow play style.  I might have to switch to ballista because I need a better way to mitigate chaos/element resistances.  So far that is my down fall.

I really want to get to Sirus this league.  I think I am half way there but the tough half remains.  I want to say I have 12 watchstones.

Found a kintsugi which got me out of Tabula, had to drop a link but the survivability upgrade is huge and more than made up for it.  Am now 16 watchstones in and pretty comfortably doing red maps.  Really need asenaths chant prophecy to be able to boss effectively as manually having to cast Hydeoshphere is exceedingly painful and more miss than hit.

I quite like the League mechanic, is great for currency, have not got anything decent from Gwenn gambling or deal, but there is time.  Will see how far I get before Sept and d2.

Practicing my frozen orb skills with an eye of winter occultist - I get to play with hydro orb too, which is also new for me.  Just getting to act 5.

I have mixed feeling about the game mechanic.  Sometimes I like it, and sometimes its too long.  I guess that's ok, I just skip it.  I gambled and Impulsa while trying for a Tinker Skin.   :o

The trapper works fine, but I don't like the play style.  CA/Toxic Rain works great, but I've made like 4 of them over the last year so I need something different.

O impulsa, nice I was gambling Sadist Garbs for that for ages.

Once again I have hit Tier 10 maps and I am starting to struggle.  My main need is a better bow.

This is where all my characters seem to stall out.  Getting the next level gear to push forward.  I was really close to getting with my Flicker build before the nerf hammer hit.

Now I am starting to struggle with my Toxic Rain / Caustic Arrow Raider.  A new bow with the mod to reduce Chaos Resistance might get me over the hump.  I have the mod unlocked, I just need to find/craft a bow that I can put it on.  I almost have a the right Dread essence to try to get lucky with the +2 to bow skils.

I also need to get luck with upgrading my helm, glove, armor, belt.  Everything could use an upgrade but those are the pieces that really need it.

I have to say I really hate the death penalty once you hit level 85.  I believe it is 10% and that is just too much given that there are so many things that just one shot you out of the blue.

It's always a struggle to make the step to Red Maps, then it becomes easier once your gems are 20.  I felt a bit like I was death zerging maps until pretty recently!

There's a lot to be said for a quill rain if your mana can keep up.  Numerically it takes a doozy of a crafted bow to beat it and it's fun as hell.  I'd think it wouldn't be TOO terribly bad to gamble one?

I am going to check my item filter I though I had the short bow in my Chance allowance.  I haven't seen a short bow that I can chance much less have the unique version drop.  I do have a low level quill rain but it is only three sockets and because of the iLevel I can't get more on it.

edit: it is in my filter--I am just not see any short bows for some reason

Oh and.. great for Toxic Rain, not so much for Caustic Arrow as the attack speed doesn't really buy you anything.

Saved up 300 fusings and thought I'd give it a go... failed.. and the 5 link horti recipes I have stored all created the 5 link backwards (leaving the first socket unlinked) which is unfortunate cause I need the green socket... sigh...

Will play the shield crush char for a bit to in bork myself :(

In happy news, I got another a note in the wind, random stacked deck, not from the 100 or so desert spring maps I've done.... half way to the dream helm!

The linking system SUCKS in SSF!  I've 6-linked in 100 fusing but then quit for a year after failing 3000.  Just like the old Aion enchanting system, it can really take the joy out of a new item find.  YAY I found an awesome armor.. crap I've got to 6-link it.  I used to love some of those shape/elder items where you could get two built-in supports in a helm or gloves, but they're not as useful in the current meta.

Hmm.. I'm about to hit maps with 3000hp.  THIS IS FINE.

I continue to struggle with my next set of gear.  Just went Delving so I can get the 5 link/Socket recipe.  While doing delving it seemed like my Phasing stopped working.  One of the best things about my ascendancy is 100 Onslaught and Phasing.  Yet, sporadically, I was unable to run through monsters.  Died because of it.

There are so many things I like about this game, but there seems like there is an almost equal amount of frustration that comes with this game.

I need this game to drop me a great bow with an open prefix (I think prefix) for the -% enenmy chaos resists.  I want to see how much that will help my character.

Easiest way to 5 link is to run haewark region with atlas bonus of Harvest.  The blue plants shit out socket link options and 5 link is really common.  I've been saving them in the Horti station to fix mg breaking items when trying to 6 link.

Halariously, had 9 fusings after playing the other char for a bit and was trying to unlink my bow so I could horti 5 link and 6 linked it in 4 fusings... ridiculous game

Wow!  There goes your RNG for the rest of the league!

I'm having tons of fun with the winters eye / hydroshere occultist.  I don't think its going to make it very deep into yellow maps on self-found gear, but it's really fun to play.

Edit:  On a whim, I jumped from the T2 maps I'd been running to a moderately juiced T9.  Not bad!  Had to play carefully but damage wasn't a problem..

I just ran six expedition log books.  That was pretty fun.  The process of getting the log books is pretty tedious.

Also playing around with a different bow.  The character screen says it is lower damage but it seems to work ok.  I haven't tried it on  a T10 map yet though.  It has the reduce Chaos Resistance mod on it and most of my Damage is Chaos Dots.  We shall see.  Still hunting a better bow.

So omg, I've been running storm rain totems as CC and single target damage along with LA, was running GMP and saw a vid on focussed Ballista Support... way smaller area, but man does it spit out some projectiles... Really quite a nice support.

Is there a trick to getting logbooks?  I’ve only seen one.  Ok the character stinks at blight!  Every other mob is proximity shielded..  grumble.  WTB small life cluster jewel, 50 SoJ..

Oh my.  can you link your character so I can get a better sense of the set up?

Also...how are you testing this?  Either way it looks very impressive. I would say you are doing just a bit more damage.

So I crafted a much better bow off of Rog.  Still lots of room for improvement but it is a nice step in the right direction.  First real improvement from Rog since the beginning of the week.  His higher level crafts are much better than the low level ones.  I used up most of my Jeweler Orbs and Links to get the five sockets linked.  Pain in my ass.  Now I need a 6L armor and bow.

Also very important note about Phasing.  I thought GGG broke phasing with there latest hot fix.  It went from awesome to basically note working for me. I just couldn't figure it out and it lead to a lot of deaths.  I was feeling pretty pissed and then I realized that I switched from Smoke Mine to Flame Dash.  No clue why that makes a difference.  But when I went back to Smoke Mine, and having detonate on left click, my Phasing started working again.  I don't event have to be dropping mines for it to make the difference.  I suspect it is a bug with the detonate being on the left click.  Holy fuck it makes a difference.  With Smoke Mine set up Phasing works and I can run around as I am supposed to with out it I was about to Rage Quit the game.

At this point I am working on my next bow.  I really need more Essences of Dread.  I have two screaming ones but I really need the level that is one higher to get the +2 bow gems.  Then I can start trying for my next level gems.  That and I really need more Thicket Bows.

Not my vid Sssith!  Just found it... multiple totems, Ballista totem and focussed totem support, then j
Totem will only fire when you attack.

Matt long time no see!  Will check out the discord!

I know! I've been playing Hearthstone mostly and hadn't been able to much traction on GO with that so kinda fell out of the loop. But drifted back with the D2R open beta at the weekend.

I hope you're well.

Hiya Matt!  Thanks for setting up a discord!

I think I’m going to split my time between league and standard going forward.  There are no gottahav items that I’m likely to get, and standard lets me play endgame will all the good toys I’ve found over the years.  Oh my poor builds.   :'(

Sure thing. I've made a PoE channel as there appears to be a group of active players playing it.

Hit a really hard brick wall at t14 maps with the LA Deadeye.  Just not been able to farm the helm upgrade.  Started playing my alt, shield crush, such a better experience in red maps.  Char is only 86 and lvl 18 gems bit can comfortably do red maps.  Will need a better shield soon and need to farm some char levels, but will be the character to do the end game unless I can find the last 2 div cards to go back to the ranger.

I was debating starting up a Shield Charge character.  They seem pretty meta right now.

I asked this in discord but here might be better:
Quote
Question for those that might know better.  I am playing Raider Toxic Rain/Caustic Arrow.  I have found an almost great large cluster Jewel.  It has two of the three ideal skills in a 8 socket jewel.  I don't have the medium or small cluster Jewels to match.  Should I respect to the large cluster jewel or wait until I have at least the medium ones?
Title: Re: Path of Exile

Use the large cluster.  Not sure if you use Path of Building, but import the char and you can check to see what it does to your damage.

I am about to go on a trip.  It  will have to wait until after.

It is a pretty big respec to get this done.  I know about importing to PoB.  What I am less clear about is how do I mimic the new cluster if it is not already in the socket.  I guess it won't hurt to try.  I probably should be better at that tool.

edit: https://pastebin.com/cPNJg8Ah

That is my current build.  Basically I would spec out from the path that leads to Atrophy and then put in the cluster jewel.

Havent done that for you yet!

Harvest div card gamble gave me 4 note in the wind and I got my helm, also had the last Bereks ring drop and traded in the 3 of them for The Taming, such a big power jump in those 2 items.  Char is now amazing at t16 map clear, still quite not great boss killer, butbi may switch to barrage in the 2nd 6 link (once I actually 6 link a chest)...

Fun char is fun now.

Congrats on getting over the new items.

I created a new tree in that build and I created the cluster jewel that I have.  I just haven't figured out how to put that jewel into the tree.  I am probably missing something easy.

So I did the respec.  https://pastebin.com/s6c3C35F

That is the new pastebin.  It seems to be better.  I still need better medium Jewels.  A better large Jewel also, but the large Jewel is pretty good.  Now to see if I notice a difference.  First time using a cluster Jewel.

Taking a break from POE there is so much to like in the game and so many annoying things.  I have another character at level 88 that slowly screeches to a halt.  I could probably power through this time but I am finding that I really don't want to.  The 10% death penalty is beyond annoying because you get one shot from off the screen, or run into a boss that corrupts your blood over and over.  Just tedious.

I've been on a fairly long hiatus from D2 and been playing PoE instead.  I've been playing PoE for years now, started back in beta, but the constant resetting of the new leagues got me down.  I exclusively play SSF Standard now.  I'm currently playing a Dominating Blow Guardian at level 95 (assuming I don't die again, I should hit 96 today!) and really enjoying it.

This last patch was rough.  Messed up the builds I had.  So I decided to try the league.  In retrospect it was probably a mistake.  I should have just figured out how to change my builds.  That said I do like my TR Raider but I ran into the same issues around level 88.

I played for quite sometime, but I got tired of not having optimal builds and trying to get through any endgame content.  Just seems overly complex in general, but there are a lot of things to like about the game.  Many skills are not endgame viable either, unless you have the best equipment.

Hey Flan!

And yes...that is pretty much my experience.  I finally had something that might have been end game viable when the nerf hammer hit. Frustrating.

A good game that is overly complex.

I didn't bother with the latest, I heard it was a nightmare.  I really enjoyed the variety of skills and the use of support skills, but it's a victim of it's complexity IMO.  With the number of skills available, you would think there would be a variety of builds that could finish fairly easily but not so.  I made it pretty far with some lesser used skills like cobra lash and chain hook (my favorite), but would never be able to do even the easiest of maps.

It does have some really good qualities, which makes the overall execution so frustrating for me.  It's the power creep that seems to affect these games and makes it more and more difficult for casual players to enjoy.
