Title: NFL 2017-2018
Post by: Reigns on September 22, 2017, 01:40:23 PM
So we're two weeks in and I haven't heard anyone have a fit yet.  That just seems wrong somehow.  Any impressions?  Thoughts?  Opinions on Zeke Elliot, The Patriots, The Saints, or anything else you'd like to share?

My particular interest is The Steelers, of course.  I'm not thrilled about the start of the season despite the 2-0 record. Sure, it's better than playing fantastic and being 0-2, but the team just looked... flat.  Le'Veon Bell's absence from training camp was fantastically obvious, although he had a much better game in game 2 than 1.  It'll be interesting to see if he continues to improve and is back to his old self by game 3 or 4.  As for Antonio Brown....  *shakes head*  Yeah, that dude is a diva in front of the camera, but he's a ridiculously talented one, and one who works his ass off at practice, unlike most divas.  Ben's just the same as he always is.

So NFL.  Go.

Yeah, and I am a bit torn about it.

What is the long term plan at QB?  Why are we starting a 38 year old journey man at QB?  One thing to have such a player as a backup.  But starting him?  I say the Jets should be starting Petty or (god help us) Hackenberg at QB.  Let's figure out if they have a future.  We are in rebuilding mode, in what way does McCown help with that?

I'm just holding out to see what happens when Tom Brady gets his 6th ring this season. Will he get a 6th finger grafted onto his hand for it, or will they just acknowledge his awesomeness by issuing him a Super Bowl bracelet instead? Maybe a full-blown royal crown?

My Bears beat the Steelers with a couple of my jackass Steeler friends in the stands, so this has been quite a great season already. Of course the Bears may not win another game, but that's another story for another time.

I thought you were more concerned about the Vikings and Packers!

Who gives a crap about the mangy dogs that are the Steelers.

Dear Sssith and Dave,

Please feel free to screw yourself at great length, in your respective rectum-holes, with various and sundry instruments of death and ickyness.  Please allow me to suggest the tire iron, the chain saw, the samurai sword, the length of rusty pipe and the underage, herpes-ridden duck-billed platypus.

Bears going to the rookie QB which fans have been clamoring for, only to forget their clamoring and criticize why he was playing in a wasted season when he gets hurt in two weeks.

The Jets win again, destroying Sssith's dream of getting the #1 pick in the draft.  The Packers looked pretty good too (albeit against the Bears) without their top 2 OTs and losing their top 2 RBs.  Poor Bears.

The Jets win again, destroying Sssith's dream of getting the #1 pick in the draft.

And now a third win.  My point however, was not so much about getting the top pick.  It is more about playing with a old QB who is not going to be around in a years time.  I want to see if either Petty or Hackenberg have the potential to be the QB of the future.  The Jets are not going to win the Superbowl.  So what is the point of winning games with a 38 year old QB?

On the positive side I am seeing huge improvements in how the Jets are being coached.  That is a huge deal.  We have a lot of new, young, players playing well.  That is a huge deal.  Our draft class seems to be a good one.  That is great news.

But until we have a QB we are going to be playing catch up.

Well we won again.

And we probably should have won the game against the Pats.

Overall there are hopeful signs for the Jets.

But FRAAAAKKKK...we need a long term QB.

This was horrible to watch:  http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/news/ryan-shazier-injury-update-hit-video-steelers-back-improving/qfj5rw6enqkf1l386xaxy45zl
Some of his teammates were crying on the sidelines when it was obvious that he couldn't move his legs at all.
Thankfully there's hope that he'll recover fully -- but they don't know for sure.

That is insane that it ended like that.  That DB screwed up that play so badly.  He could have done just about anything else and it wouldn't have been a touchdown.

Eh. He's still the greatest QB that ever played the game. The team just didn't pull it all together.

I can't be mad about it, though. The Eagles deserved their win, and it's always fun to see a long drought end (I say as a lifelong Red Sox fan...).

I'd only be mad if it was some shit-tastic team like the Cowboys. Or the Giants.

Tampa is Patriots South now.  I might have a new team to hate! ;)  However, I will still despise the Vikings more than any other team.

That Tampa offense should be pretty good.  They have stud WRs, TB12, Gronk (if he can stay healthy), and most importantly, no turnover machine, aka Jameis Winston.

Anybody watch the first round of the draft last night.  I have to say, I was floored when my Packers took Jordan Love in the first round.   I am torn with this pick.  Only time will tell I guess, although you can say that about any of these picks I suppose.

I followed the draft last night and will again tonight.  I did not watch.

For the first time in a long time it seems that the Jets have a GM that has a real plan and is executing it.  I am feeling somewhat optimistic about these developments.

Of course the prior GM in his last act hired Gase...so we still have that load stone.

Being a Bears fan, I'm obligated to hate that team from the north. But I do remember when Rodgers first came in, and Favre refused to teach him everything he needed to know. Apparently, Rodgers didn't need the tutelage, but I would hope he would spend some time with Love and help him learn what he knows. Of course, as a Bears fan, I hope Rodgers breaks another collar bone and Love falls on his face. I'm obligated to.

I watched the first 10 or so picks of the draft, before I got bored. The next day, I really enjoyed watching the replay of Coach Nagy's call to Cole Kmet. Kmet is a Chicago native, so now he gets to play for his favorite team. His family was freaking out in the background. I'm interested in watching him develop.

I wouldn't expect anything less from a true Bears fan.  I feel the same way towards Bears and Vikings players.

So are the Bears going to roll with an offense that has 9 TE's, 1 QB, and 1 RB on the field?  I think they need a few more TE's to really pull it off though.  They could move Trubisky to TE since he is obviously not a QB.
Title: Re: NFL 2017-2018
Post by: Drozz on April 29, 2020, 07:30:53 PM
I think they'll end up keeping four TE's. There may be some plays that line up three TE's. And Foles will be the QB. Trubisky needs more time. He's just not picking it up. Very disappointing. More years of being carried by the D.

Pretty happy with the draft for the Jets.  It is nice to have a GM that actually has a plan.  I didn't agree with everything he did but I am happy with the direction of the team.  Now if we only had a real HC.
