Gaming General / My old old 2009 Torchlight Mods
« on: May 15, 2018, 11:11:35 PM »
I know some of us are horders, and held onto everything.

Does anyone have the AlwaysIdentified and GUIDStripper tools I built for Torchlight way back then?

Gaming General / Gamersoasis Game Night?

Is there any interest in maybe picking a night a week and a game and a bunch of us pairing off into groups to either kill things together, each other, or whatever is entailed in some game?  I know a lot of us still end up grouping in Diablo 3 for example, but, just thinking something a bit more structured than the random spotting someone online and such.

So, this goes in general.  Despite the lack of implicit safety in posting something like this in public.

How does one, or fuck, should you even, inform your workplace when you've exhausted all your fucks and have no more fucks left to give?

I could rant, rave, and go on about causes and such, but, ultimately, doesn't feel like the important bit to me right now.

Books / Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
« on: April 06, 2017, 06:50:31 AM »
So, I stumbled into this book in audiobook form.  It's pretty enjoyable with a decent cast of readers for different sections.  It's YA Science Fiction, so it might be too light for some people, and there's some YA tropes, but even as they rear their head they are not as dominating as they can be in other books.

It's done with a semi-unique format, documenting forum posts, video recordings, emails, etc that lay out the story for the characters.  So, if you haven't read it, i'd recommend giving it a look.  It was really enjoyable in audiobook form, and I also intend to order the dead tree versions as the dead tree versions are littered with drawings, diagrams and other interesting material.   As well, some of the text bits make a lot more sense when laid out versus being read to you.

If you have read it, chime in, I think it's one of my more favored listen/reads lately.

Edit: i suck at copying by-lines, evidently, despite the google search results, the book has two authors! :o

General Discussion / @mentions

I've enabled @mentions.  To make use of this feature, you must opt-in.   I am not making it spam you with e-mails unless it's something you want.

To enable it, hover over profile, go to mentions, and down at the bottom is a checkbox that will enable the forum to send you an e-mail when you're mentioned.  For example, @Pixie or @nanenj (if you type the @ and start to type a name, it will helpfully contribute an autocomplete for the name and it links to the related user's profile.  It's something I like, it can be removed if people are irritated by it, but, I find it useful.

Standard stuff, just a query should we reorganize, or just port over the existing categories and boards from the backup?

General Discussion / Staff?

So, I do expect some of the membership count to have disappeared/died due to the rampant decay that was being suffered.

I want to bring up a discussion of whom to slap with mod labels etc.

We may not need that many, but, I'm absolutely sure that my time is limited and I'd rather have someone that has more time and attention to myself paying attention and be in a position to handle many of the things that come up.

I'm suspecting many/all of these early sign-ups are good candidates as you're here almost immediately as word is fixing itself and what's going on.

I also wanted to suggest that perhaps Lego is a decent candidate for an admin, as he obviously cares very much about the place and was a primary catalyst in shit getting fixed.  Feedback is useful, if none received, I'm probably just gonna do wtf ever I want.  No one wants that. ;)

Any pre-existing staff that shows, is more then welcome to reclaim a position.  I'm just not sure how many of us are still about/paying attention.

General Discussion / Welcome to GamersOasis, again!
« on: April 03, 2017, 07:51:04 AM »
So, to repair the longstanding decay, and rust, and other kruft.

Archived forum: http://gamersoasis.net/backup/

I've reinstalled.  It's fresh, snappy, etc.  I'm working through things.

There may be a few issues here and there, please let me know.

You will need to re-sign up.

Issues of identity should it arise, should still be able to be resolved by communication through the backup forum which is 'fully' (hah!) operational, or at least as operational as it was before-hand.  Or should be anyways, I can't access that one at work, so will need third party confirmation.

I've been deleting 'odd' accounts as they come in, as I've yet to get recaptcha and various anti-spam measures installed yet.   I will be restoring old moderator accounts as they contact me.  This means, if you've signed up with an account that is a janky series of numbers and letters, and it's actually legit.  Woops.  I didn't recognize you and I killed the account. :P

I can also resolve things on a case-by-case basis through e-mail.  This will be much jankier, and I expect in most cases there's easier solutions.   Will update and spam as things come up.
