I never got past the second book, or was it the third?  Too slow.  This, however, does look interesting.

I hated the way the series ended but the trailer looks fun.

some speculation that the movie is a sequel to the series, rather than a straight-up adaptation. it could work.

That would be great. I'd like to see some kind of resolution.

The trailer looks good, but I misremembered and thought it was going to be TV show not a movie... not sure what they can do with the story in a movie? Anyway I've only read the first book and instead of the plot or characters what has stayed in my mind was a series of evocative images, so not sure what to expect or whether I'll see it. When Elba and McConnahey were announced as the cast I immediately thought they would be perfect and the trailer seems to confirm that.

Still debating seeing it.  It is amazing that the trailer looks so good but the movie is being universally panned.

the reviews aren't wrong. maybe low expectations will help your opinion of it.

I quite liked it myself, and I'm pretty consistent in my loathing for film adaptations of books I liked.  I didn't expect it to hold to the storyline of the original source material though, as that would be impossible.  So if you just go in looking to enjoy it for what it is - not bad at all.
