Season 12
« on: October 28, 2017, 11:27:59 AM »
The next season of Diablo will be upon us soon! I'm undecided which class I want to play at this point. Barbarian is calling my name, as I loved the old HOTA/IK build. I am tempted by Demon Hunter, but I have a pretty decent one in non-season. I'm also really intrigued by the Necromancer again - the pestilence set intrigued me when they first came out, and now that is one of the top GR builds in the game.

I love having so many great options, though!

I agree Ray.  Lots of viable and fun options.  Every class has a couple of good builds to go with.  Which class to play will be a tough decision.

How did everyone progress last night? I got on a couple hours after the start, but I had quite a bit of luck on my side to start the season. After getting the Challenge Rift reward, I gambled a Bracers of Destruction on my 4th attempt. I spent the rest of my shards hoping for a Band of Might, but didn't end up getting one. After getting to level 40, I crafted a two-handed mace with -21 level requirements on the very first try! I didn't have to re-roll it at all.

I ended up calling it a night at 1:30am, after hitting level 64 or 65 - I was too tired, and I don't remember. I got paired up with a pretty good group of guys who knew what they were doing, which made for a good first night. Can't wait to play tonight, and start getting my set pieces.

I managed about an hour and a half of play yesterday. Spent the first hour grinding my rebirthed DH on Hard and by the time I came back online later in the evening one of my EU flatmates was P260 and boosted me to 70 and helped me with a GR30 for a BotP..

Now I just need to put in some time ticking off seasonal achievements to start getting my set pieces.

Well I think I am figuring out the Crusader.  Almost done with Act II.  Playing on Torment and I am getting by pretty well (maybe a bit squishy though I have not died once yet).  Already level 45 which seems ridiculous.  Is there even such a thing as Normal, Nightmare, Hell?  If so why?  I think I am one normal given it is my first play through.  But there doesn't seem to be a need for such things.

At this point I main playing with a build around holy damage.  Given that I have damage spikes of over 75k I assume I am doing something right.

Woah!! SSith is playing again!

First off, almost no one ever plays the campaign anymore except the rare situation like yourself playing a character for the first time, and myself now with the necro before I killed him.   As you say, being 45 in act 2 is very different to the terrible grind of the previous 4 linear difficulty settings.  This happened over 3 years ago https://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/12671560/patch-201-now-live-2-25-2014

before level 70 just do whatever you want, after level 70 all your current gear will be trashed anyway.

Good to have you back!

hopefully you are playing in the season, if not, do that!  You get a FULL set for finishing the 4th chapter you see here.  https://d3resource.com/journey/

You can do it relatively simple solo, or much faster with help which will be there if you want it.

I am thinking on finishing the regular play through since I have not seen Act V or what ever it is called.

This character is in the Season.  So eventually I will start working on finishing the achievements.

Last night I started a necromancer named Aeris. Also kind of re-learning how to play.

I don't expect to get far or accomplish much since I'm way too casual for season play, but whatever. I'll have fun with it while it lasts. :D

I am running through the campaign since I haven't done it with necro, plus I really have a hard time playing a game without some sort of structure to it. Just playing on hard for now, but I'll probably bump it up soon.

SSsithy.  I enjoyed Act V the first time I saw it, some some different types of environments, the story got moved along (yes it has faults of course).  New monsters etc are always interesting to learn what is fodder and what will challenge you.  Enjoy the big boss at the end, its the toughest fight in the campaign.

GG on the achievements ;)  Solid plan.

I might see you both in game with my level 6 necro.  In the past I would play a few hours at the start of a season and rush to 70.  I can't be bothered going too nuts at the moment

I'm looking at the Season rewards and wondering....why play seasonal?

Only reason is for MP it seems, the rewards are lackluster...

edit: I should clarify...the cosmetic rewards are fairly good (angelic wings, portrait), but I want banners and pets :(

Is there even such a thing as Normal, Nightmare, Hell?

Nope, there is no more Normal, Nightmare, Hell, and Inferno difficulties.  There are difficulties you set at the start of a game session and that range from Normal, Hard, Expert, Master, and Torments (1 thru 13).  You can change these at anytime so you aren't locked into one.  Most of the good items only drop in torment difficulties, so if you can handle T1 or higher, stay there.  The game now is basically about getting to lvl 70, doing bouties, rifts, and greater rifts.  It is so much better than 5 yrs ago.

I do it mainly for the fresh start. The stash tab rewards were nice, but I've been capped out on those for a while now. I've been trying to play characters that I haven't played in a while, just to keep it fresh and different.

I play seasonal for the fresh start.  With billions in gold and thousands of crafting materials and gems, not to mention Paragon Points and Gems of Ease, it's too easy to start a character and be Level 70 in like half an hour.

I like the challenge of starting with nothing.  I like learning how to play the game again, or at least play that class again.  And when Legendaries drop that I otherwise wouldn't even look at twice, but which are the best thing I have for that slot, I check them out.  Some skill I never use now does an extra 400% damage or something?  Okay, I'll try it out.

Given the choice, I tend not to wander from the safe, comfortable stuff I'm familiar with.  So in a twisted kind of way, I like not having the choice, and I end up doing a bunch of stuff I wouldn't have otherwise done.
