General Discussion / Re: Update Lego Thread
« on: October 14, 2018, 03:09:49 PM »
I've now been back in Montreal for a month and a half, and we're finally getting settled. Our furniture was delivered this week, and we finished unpacking the last boxes yesterday. 7 weeks in hotel/flat with bare necessities has been a bit long, so glad to have some comfort back. AND MY PC, obviously :p
Otherwise, everything has been going wonderfully. Really enjoying the new job, there were things I expected but many good surprises too. Not sure I had announced it here yet, but after many years working close to video games technology but never actualy in it... I joined Ubisoft ;) And no, I can't tell much, I signed more or less my weight in paper in various NDAs :p
And today is a beautiful autumn day, enjoying the famous Canadian autumn colors, I'll post some pictures sometimes.

Glad to hear things are going well! You will have to let me know when:

1) You are ready for visitors
2) You are ready to give me free copies of Assassin's Creed :D

Now playing Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

Or more accurately, Far Cry: Assassin's Odyssey. ;)

Is good.

Really good.

It looks great.  I play most of the AC games but I'm one behind and honestly, I'm not sure I have time for this new super open world RPG direction the series is taking :(

Diablo 3 / Re: Diablo 4?

Because Activision Blizzard has moved on from where it was. The return on investment is so much higher for games with microtransactions. They are prevalent in Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch and WoW. They tried to put them in D3. They've shoehorned them into Starcraft 2. That's just the way the big players in the gaming industry are moving. To expect D4 to have the same business model as D2 is hopeful at best.

I doubt it will be an MMO. They can't afford to cannibalize WoW subs. I doubt it's going to be a traditional Diablo game either. Looking at HS, HoTS and Overwatch they are all riddled with monetization stuff.  I'll guess an episodic game or something more like D3 with seasons that have enough new content each time they can charge for access to each one.  My longshot guess, Diablo battle royale. Though I think an overwatch engine based battle royale is more likely.

I picked up 'Into the Breach' on the Switch over the weekend as I wanted something I could play mobile in short bursts and Slay the Spire isn't out yet! What an absolutely incredible game, definitely glad I picked it up.  Between this, Slay the Spire, Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW it is going to be really tough for me to pick my GOTY this year.

I've also decided based on my aging 970 and the price of the 20xx series that I'm going to give new PC games a break and try and clear my old console backlog - mainly PS3 and vita stuff.  I finished Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time and have now started God of War: Ascension.  After that I have a bunch of RPGs to think about, including Suikoden I & II, Persona 3&4, Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Graces F.

In the mean time you are missing on some fun games.

My backlog is chock full of fun games. They should pass the time until the next wave of graphics cards. That or I try to grab a 1080 going cheap before they're all gone.

Ok, this game is gooood.

And pretty. I do not regret buying a 1080 at all now.

I still haven't played the second Tomb Raider as I only have a 970 and I know I won't get full graphical goodness.  I was waiting for the 20xx series before upgrading but now those look pretty disappointing I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

I just got around to playing and finishing Doom (the 2016 one).  I'm generally not much of a fan of FPS these days, but Doom is absolutely fantastic!

I played this continuously since it was on beta, but I have finally got off of it thanks to Slay the Spire (which I don't play nearly as much).

I don't really have any great hope here and if anything, 2016 showed how divided the left in the US is. It is far far easier for the far right to rally around a candidate, especially when they just go mindlessly for soundbites over substance.

Rallying the political left behind a single candidate, especially when Bernie demonstrate both how "big" and divided the political "left" was, is going to be a huge challenge. Regardless that Hilary lost because of the failings of the EC, it seems pretty clear that the left won't, on principle, all rally behind a candidate just to defeat abhorrent opposition. I've not seen any signs this side of the pond that the Dems have learned any lessons from 2016 or have plans to appeal to the voters, especially younger voters, who Bernie appealed to.

I don't think a "project fear" vote for X candidate or we'll get Trump, is going to cut it.

At present, I fully expect Trump will get four more years.

These are my thoughts exactly.

Stunned today to find out I couldn't sell any cards on steam because I haven't bought anything in Steam in over a year!  Was hoping to get rid of some cards and pick up Slay the Spire, which looks like exactly my kind of game and is getting all kinds of awesome ratings.

The books are well worth reading.  I thoroughly enjoyed them and they do add a lot to playing W3.  I don't have much to say on builds though.

I mostly agree with the above, but your choices in W2 do have an impact in W3 in that different side quests and such are available.  In the grand scheme of the plot though, no those choices don't matter (I think).
