Yeah, we don't have one of these yet.
Post about the candidates. Thoughts, findings, whatever.
Have at thee!
Also, fuck Trump. :P

random thoughts:
liked what i saw of most of the DNC speeches. standouts = both of the Obamas, Warren, and a good speech from Biden last night to cap it off. appeared genuine and empathetic, and was able to speak intelligently for half an hour. nice contrast on all counts with the current president.
was mightily amused that Bannon was arrested by the postal inspection service. he's still scheduled as a speaker at the RNC, of course.
Dejoy did himself no favors in his senate hearing this morning. be nice if something actually came of it.
-
I listened to Biden’s speech this morning, found it a great contrast to the past years bullshit.

An asteroid might hit the Earth the day before the election. Of course. Because 2020.

I love this.

probably a formality at this point, but there really is no republican party anymore. (https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/rnc-abandons-adoption-of-new-party-platform-points-at-support-for-trump-instead)

Yeah. What's going to happen, I think, is that disaffected republicans are going to become democrats, pushing the democratic party right/center, and then the dem party will split off and our next two party system will be democrats vs progressives.
This is a thing that has happened several times in US history...

Democrats vs progressives would be way better than alt-right scumbags vs Democrats.

Wow.
Agreed. Just insane that Republicans think this is ok.

I would love to see this happen but there are so many things that will make things different from the last time this happened. I would expect a sub republican group to splinter off and try to take over the brand. Much in the way that the Tea Party has over the last ten years.

That is a listing of political parties in the US. There really haven't been that many given the age of the country.
-
I love how Trump's arguing that the country will go all to shit if Biden is elected. Meanwhile, it's going to shit now under dipshit's leadership.

i'd think the trump party would be thrilled with that result. could hang on to power as long as dems split their vote. it's one reason trump's there now, thanks in part to bernie types not voting for clinton. trump appealed to bernie voters at the convention last night, ffs. dems vs progs sounds nice at first but the trumpers aren't going anywhere.
-
No, some of you didn't follow through what I was saying. I'm not saying it ends up dem vs prog as we know them, with the Trumpers just disappearing. I'm saying dems get shifted further and further right by absorbing conservatives (starting with the appeal to the moderate/non-trumpers), until the progressives get frustrated and split off... and what we call "Democrats" become what the "Republicans" were. In the end, the Democrat party just switches sides. Which has happened through a similar process in the past.

RIP RBG.
So now what. Do a handful of Republicans break with McConnell or do they fill it? Does Biden threaten to add judges if they do? Arghhghhgh
-
GODFUCKINGDAMMIT
-
Biden’s got to add some justices. He can’t say that now though. Would mobilize the one issue voters for trump. Only thing worse than Trump adding a justice is trump winning another term.
-
It's the only play left. Win the presidency, take the senate, and pack the fucking court.
And while we're at it, statehood for DC and PR.
-
I am so depressed. What a loss for our country. I wish she could have held on for a couple more months. That is a selfish thought, I know. Looking back, I almost wish she would have retired under Obama so we wouldn't be in this position now.
Worst president ever gets to nominate 3 supreme court justices. It's just devastating. My hate for Mitch McConnell is probably higher than that for our idiot president right now.
-
No guarantee McConnell would have seated her replacement, had she retired then. Murkowski and Collins have both said no vote before the election, though the gop can afford up to 3 defections, so unless two more join them it doesn’t matter. And then there’s the lame duck period.

Supposedly Chuck Grassley has also said no vote, but I can't find any confirmation. He did say that back in July, but July was 50 years ago.
And if they wait for the lame duck, McSally could be out of the equation. Since she's a replacement, if she loses (which she will), Mark Kelly gets seated immediately, as I understand it.
-
Collins today:
In fairness to the American people, who will either be re-electing the President or selecting a new one, the decision on a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court should be made by the President who is elected on November 3rd.
sorta surprised to see her make a statement like this. guess we'll see if she holds to it after she loses.
re Kelly, he likely gets seated end of November. earlier than a regular election, but maybe not fast enough to help.
-
Collins is useless and as trustworthy as Lucy holding a football for Charlie Brown.
Can't wait to vote her out of office... >.>

Oh well played.

Sen. Chuck Grassley won't oppose holding Supreme Court nomination hearings this year (https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/2020/09/21/chuck-grassley-indicates-he-wont-oppose-ruth-bader-ginsburg-replacement-hearings-this-year/5853963002/)
-
Romney is in on filling the seat, too.
So, yeah. That's that.
Amy Barrett will be on scotus. FML.
-
Hopefully dems get control of senate, win presidency, and then add 4 or 6 seats to the court. Screw those Republican bastards.
-
Won't Republican's just then add another 4-6 seats when they get in power again?
-
Possibly. The goal is to get to 101 justices by the year 2100.
-
Won't Republican's just then add another 4-6 seats when they get in power again?
Without bullshit like gerrymandering and voter suppression, Republicans can't win. They represent a minority that's shrinking all the time. They know it (hence Trump saying the quiet part out loud once that "if everyone votes, Republicans would never be elected again").
The idea is to stack the court and then make voting easier/more accessible, and so on and oh look, they never get majority power again.

And of course... blatant cheating. (https://theweek.com/speedreads/939191/trump-campaign-reportedly-discussing-contingency-plans-bypass-election-results)

Dems looking to term limit SCOTUS. I'll take it.
-
I did my part today and got my early voting done today. Come on America get your shit together!
-
My vote is in.
Vote suppression tactics are pissing me off. >:(
-
I dropped my ballot off at the dropbox last week. I checked online and it was accepted. I can't wait for the idiot in chief to be gone.
-
Mailed in my ballot today. Very happy to vote against Susan Collins....

i hope you didn't use one of these drop boxes (https://news.yahoo.com/california-gop-pushes-back-against-230301410.html).
not quite sure what CA repubs hope to accomplish here, beyond a set-up for a lawsuit.

Fucking idiotic. Fucktards need to be bitched slapped for this nonsense.
No. I used a my local post office. I live in the county seat so it doesn't have to go far.
