So you are saying that I should look into the second but skip the first?

There's no real reason to play the first at this point. They're not sequels in any meaningful way. No shared places, characters, etc.

Next up: Tales of Berseria

I'm so sorry.

My expectations aren't high.  I played Tales of Xillia 1 and 2 and they had surprisingly strong character development (like, some of the best in any game).  If Berseria has the same, it'll at least be a welcome change from MHW that has 0 story or character development.

Berseria has a few interesting characters, one awesome one, and a couple annoying ones. Overall, the characters are good, though, and the story is reasonable (as jrpgs go). It dives headfirst into a pile of melodrama that it never emerges from. But its worst transgression is how far it outstays its welcome. The combat/mechanics are not interesting in any way and it just gets SO TIRESOME, even if you crank it down to easy/casual so you can just blow through it. And the back-and-forth across the map gets old. It's a few nuggets of good wrapped with hours of tedious filler.

Basically, it would be ten times better if it were 25% of the length.

Magilou, however, is still one of my favorite characters from any game ever.

I hate to admit that I couldn't get into the original.  Maybe I should give it another try.

Ultimate Survivor is fun.  I remember a couple hard points.  My suggestion...don't die.  :-P

I couldn't get into it the first time I tried playing. I reinstalled it some time later and for some reason it just clicked, and I played it for well over 100 hours and fell in love. It's my favorite zombie survival game (well, until now).

Not everyone likes it. It's definitely got some rough edges. It is, after all, not a AAA game.

The sequel is exactly what I wanted, though: lots more of the same, but better. They didn't go out and rewrite the formula like so many sequels do. They improved on the best features and fixed other things and added some stuff while keeping it the same basic game.

State of Decay 2 is everything I wanted it to be.

Most gamers these days don't want replayability, especially in a 100 hour game. They want to be able to do everything with one character (see also: being able to be master of every guild in recent TES games). Once and done and see/do it all! Get 100% of the e-peen achievements! I guess it's not bad game design to pander to the larger audience.

Some of us like to have to make choices that preclude other ones, to have something to return to and do differently on a subsequent playthrough. Pretty sure we're the minority, though.

But that's what Daddy Ryder did in the opening sequence. Cora even asked him about it. He explained it had to do with SAM. The game gave you this function and the in-game justification for it, expecting that you would take advantage of it - being able to instantly adjust your abilities to meet the needs of the current situation is what separates Ryder from, say... Shepard...

You're missing all the other skills. :D

Just because you can only use 3 at one time doesn't mean you shouldn't learn others. Take advantage of the profile system and put together different builds for different situations, and switch on the fly.

Yeah, it was pretty good. Lots of intelligent ideas.

I just wish I could have made out the words.  ;D

Cora gets to spend the entire game on the Tempest. Where she belongs. :P

No, I literally couldn't understand what he was saying.

Unfortunately, I couldn't understand 90% of the words.

Yeah, that Tempest lag thing sounds weird af. I hate inexplicable issues like that. Happy I don't have it or I'd probably ragequit.

Drack is awesome. I also adore Peebee. I keep saying I'm going to romance Suvi (that accent, /swoon) or Liam and then I end up with Peebee anyway.  <3

I like not having to manage the NPCs equipment. (ok, I *love* not having to do so)
I like not having to micromanage them in combat.
Everything just flows nice and smooth. I do my thing, they do theirs, we kick ass, and move on.

I prefer just playing my one character, not a group. I don't like party-based RPGs very much for the same reason.

I'm hoping to do a complete upgrade of my system in the near future, and Andromeda is pretty high on my list to play through with a much beefier video card.  ;D

It's pretty sweet on a 1080. :D

Backlog? I don't have no stinking backlog!

I simply have an extensive list of games that have been left unattended...
