It's pretty sweet on a 1080. :D

Don't know if I'll be able to go that high, but yeah.

Also, Cora for life.

Too bad it fell so far short of your expectations. Like Pix, I found to be a decent game. There are definitely some issues, but combat was not one of them for me. ME:A is my favorite out of all the ME games for combat. It's fluid, and flexible, and while the companions still die pretty useless deaths occasionally it feels vastly improved and superior to the pause and click style of ME1.

Considering that the entire story and planets were all built in basically a year and a half, I'm actually amazed at what they managed to accomplish.

I'm hoping to do a complete upgrade of my system in the near future, and Andromeda is pretty high on my list to play through with a much beefier video card.  ;D

Music / Podcasts?
« on: February 18, 2018, 11:03:51 PM »
Not a music topic per se, but figured it was the most appropriate subforum.

Any podcast recommendations? I subscribe to a few:

- The TSN Hockey Bobcast with Bob McKenzie. Hockey related (obviously), but Bob is a legendary insider with some fantastic stories and great perspective. The podcast isn't always about hockey - it often includes discussion on TV series, wine, and testicular cancer.

- Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project. Adam Savage is an uber nerd, in the best kind of way.

- The Ongoing History of New Music. One of the longest running radio shows cataloging the history and development of Alternative music. If you can catch the live radio show on 102.1 the Edge (Toronto Alt Rock station), you'll get the full show. Sadly, the podcast only includes 6 second song clips due to licensing fees. Over 800 episodes and counting!

Any recommendations?

Maybe Ep 12 will be Tarantino's 12th and final movie in his 10 and I'm done list?

OH MY GOD I CAN'T EVEN

It waves off mysteries Ep. 7 set up that could've led somewhere

Saw it twice over the holidays. Have to say that this was one of the things I appreciated most about it. TLJ was an unexpected (and delightful) Star Wars movie. It subverted traditional archetypes, and deliberately undid some of the completely unnecessary BS from TFA (cf. Kylo Ren's stupid helmet, Rey's parents). It is also significantly better on a second viewing.

It's not Empire, for sure. But it has two of the best lightsaber battles, was way more visually interesting, and Mark Hamill killed it in his role. Only disappointments were: Luke calling it a "laser sword", too many fucking Porgs, and Phasma.

Now we wait for JJ Abrams to ruin the trilogy!

General Discussion / Re: Marijuana

Recreational use will be fully legal here in Canada by July (medical use was already legal, and RCMP operated on "Hey, don't flaunt that shit" approach to recreational usage mostly).

I've long supported the legalization (and taxation) of marijuana. I don't see how it's any different than alcohol really. Also, props to Tim and others for making healthy decisions for themselves. It can be tough to draw those boundaries. Good for you!

My mother in law used edibles to help with the nausea and pain from dealing with cancer - she found it was way more effective for day to day pain management than opiods, which totally fucked her up. I've also seen cannabis oil transform the lives of a couple of people with serious mental health issues.

Just don't fucking drive when you're drunk/high/sleep deprived. Please.

Happy holidays to all.

2017 can die in a fire for me personally. 2018 has got to be better!

Thrustmaster. hehehehe.

Honestly, I read the entire review that was. "... is the most expensive HOTASS you can get before going into the super specialist market."

"The first thing is you want your HOTASS to provide all the buttons and switches you need to keep your hands on the ... stick"

"I can press that while my thumb is doing something else".

Kinky.

I refuse to associate with anything Penny Arcade. Because the comic is fucking terrible.

Newfoundland (where Dildo is located) has some great town names... Killbride, Hate Bay, Grosswater Beach, Blackhead, Placentia, Blow-Me-Down, Come-by-Chance, etc.

I've been linked to NeoGaf a few times. Never joined because it just seemed overwhelming.

I suspect we're going to see a lot more of this moving forward and that's a good thing - I'm not a woman, but I've seen enough #MeToo posts from my female friends to be seriously horrified.

Finished both Assassin's Creed Unity and Assassin's Creed Rogue. Of the two, I thought Rogue was infinitely better. Much more variety, story line was more compelling. Was fun to see the background to other AC games (especially AC3 which remains my favourite).

I was interested to play an AC game set in the French Revolution, but I thought they wasted a lot of the potential for the setting. The whole Assassin's Council thing was interesting, but ultimately wasted. And some of the gameplay mechanics were weird - Arno was basically Spiderman, scrambling up walls he shouldn't have been able to (even for an AC game!).

Now to go through my backlog and pick something new to play!

Music / RIP Gord Downie

 :'(

Gord Downie dead at 53 of brain cancer

For those of you who aren't Canadian (or from Buffalo), Gord Downie was the lead singer of the Tragically Hip, affectionately known as Canada's House Band. Their last concert was broadcast nationally, with an estimate one third of the population of Canada watching. He was the cultural equivalent of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Michael Stipe rolled into a single person.

I've been listening to the Hip all week. Glad I got to see them on their final tour.
