Title: The "I never noticed that before" thread
Post by: Orbert on June 08, 2017, 08:55:55 AM
In this thread, things which you never noticed before.  They might be new, or maybe have always been that way.  Who knows?

I was fighting some champions with "Health Link" and as I hit them, I saw little red lines jumping between them.  Apparently this is the health being transferred between them, since they share a pool of health.  I just noticed this the other day.

It's been a while now, but I don't remember ever hearing about the Diabolic Horde (?? not sure what it's called -- the big chest with lots of gems and stuff you get for completing certain Bounties).  I'm pretty sure I missed the first several before I noticed the huge chest sitting there, sometimes pretty far from where the boss was.

It was only a few weeks ago that I noticed the single/double/triple brackets around ID'd items at the side of the screen which referred to legendary / ancient / primal.

I could never understand how other folks knew I had something nice more quickly that I did.....

Ok, so this isn't an in-game thing, but on the 4-man GR leaderboards "I never noticed before" that there are only two people listed as having the best clear. Logically, shouldn't there ALWAYS be 4 people in the number one spot? I can't figure it out, even though I am sure there's a logical explanation.

I thought maybe it has something to do with the other 2 party members being on the leaderboard somewhere else, but then they shouldn't be, because their best clear would also be the #1 spot, so they should be there too.

Honestly, this is bugging me something fierce.

Yes, often it is that the other member(s) is (are) higher up on the board with
a better clear.   You can see party members by scrolling over  the group.
However, if only a select few show, it can be that one party member is
no longer on the boards due to being banned for rule breaking.

So the only explanation for why the #1 clear in a 4-man GR only displays two people is because the other two have been banned?

It's the same thing with the 2-man clears, the #1 spot is only held by one person.

Does make sense that potential hackers could reach the top before being found and kicked out.

Crazy that some many top players are banned, but makes sense I guess - easiest way to get to the top is to bot etc.

I have never noticed the Health Link visual before but will definitely keep an eye out for it now!

Edit: what Tim said.

Yes, it happens every season, guys.  Blizz sweeps through with
their software once or twice a season and expels the hackers/botters.
Most of these guys will be on a new account and get back to their
antics in short order.  They are the grasshoppers (as opposed to
the ants) of the D3 player base.  They build rapidly and that is their
entire approach (small financial cost and rules be damned obviously).

I was running Keywardens today, thinking about trying to get a better Hellfire Amulet for my DH, and while chasing down Odeg (Act I), I ran into some unique purple guys I've never seen before.  There were three of them, all with wacky names that I don't remember, but one of them had the subtitle "Carries a Big Stick" and one of them was "Walks Softly".

And of course there's the saying "Talk softly, but carry a big stick".  But I'm pretty sure it said "Walks Softly".  The first one was dead before I saw his subtitle, so maybe his had something to do with talking.

Oh yeah, I can Google it.  I never think of that right away.  Apparently they were added in patch 2.5, and are:

Charchain - Carries Big Stick
Lyeless - Walks Softly
Branum - Talks Softly

It was pretty cool fighting four big purple dudes at once though.

Cool. I've never come across them. I wonder what their back story is.

Not as much of  didnt notice, but didnt initially understand how it works, but I like the fact that you can skip the countdown timer after youdie in GRS now. I assume that e skipped time is just added to your progress time in the former of a penalty.

What?  I too assumed that the "waiting period" is your penalty for dying.  If you can skip it, what's the point?

The time impact on your GR, not watching a countdown is the penalty. The time is still added to your completion time for the Rift but you don't have to twiddle your thumbs for 30 seconds while it counts down.

So just to be clear, if you die and it says you now have to wait 30 seconds, but you skip it after 5 seconds, you still have 30 seconds added to your time?

How do you skip it, just hit Escape?

Orbert, I'm not sure how it works in practice.  I read about it when it was announced.  Seems like a good idea to stop people rage quitting

Ah, got it.  I guess I haven't died in a GR since they changed it, or I just never noticed that I could click immediately.

The pet Liv Moore is dropped by purple themed monster Ravi Lilliwhite in the Weeping Hollow.  The pet is dropped 100% of the time you kill Ravi Lilliwhite, but the monster doesn't spawn all the time.

More like "I've never seen that before" than "I never noticed that before" but whatever.  I didn't feel like starting another thread.

Never seen a yellow pool and a red pool so close together before.  Kinda surprised me.

so dumb question: do arcane sentries scale off monster damage? i.e., for a given GR some are more damaging than others, depending on the critter that spawns them?

never noticed that cluckeye can actually shoot a chicken. had assumed the bonus was simply the sound effect. thank the joys of starting untwinked for this pearl of trivia.

"2550% chance to cluck when attacking"

I've never understood what that meant, but I just looked it up.  "The special effect causes a chicken to occasionally spawn along with fired arrows and fly in tandem with them, dealing 500% damage as Physical to one target it hits, and confusing the victim for 2 seconds."

Seasons and playing untwinked are awesome for stuff like that.  You use items you'd never normally use because you always have something better in your Stash.

I was running bounties and happened to run into Oah' Tash, the big purple guy in the Gardens of Hope.  The bounty wasn't to kill him or anything, he was just there, but of course I killed him anyway.  A little while later, I ran into him again.  I thought maybe I was mistaken and it was his cousin Kao' Ahn I'd killed earlier, but I checked the log and it was Oah'Tash again.

I looked it up and it's a known bug.  People who get the bounty for him are sometimes surprised to run into him again since he's a "unique" monster.  But he wasn't even the bounty; there were just two of him a little ways apart.
